So, where was all the fuel "dumping"?

Straight down the carb!

You can pull the fuel pump and carefully open it and inspect the diagphram for tears or holes.

I'm not having any problems getting fuel from the pump, it is pumping more fuel than it needs to! The float was hung up and not closing the valve to stop the flow of fuel into the carb. Once it flooded the carb out it drained into the intake and down into the engine. Unfortunately it will have to be put on the back burner, I may even load it back on my trailer to get it to wherever I will be staying once we all get back out here.

I have a nice rental lined up for the winter, an older lady who summers here in MT and winters back in CA, probably a $600K house for a sweet monthly rent while she is away. Not really the kind of place to be tearing into vehicles too deep.

I also found a f'ing diesel fuel leak on my truck. It is coming from somewhere near the fuel filter housing but I haven't been able to track it down. Looks to leak a lot more under load than at an idle.

Well, when it rains, it pours...

If it dumped enough fuel thru the intake and the valves to raise the oil level, in the crankcase, before it flooded out and stopped pumping fuel, it sounds like you really need to change the oil and run it enough to thoroughly oil everything... If you leave it 'as is', it may rust inside during the winter.

Just a thought...

Get the family re-homed and enjoy them and the area... Don't let the stress kill ya!!

Nothing new to post here, been dicking with the needle valve on the carb. 3 times it has flooded the carb out, once it stuck closed. I have pulled it apart every time only to put it back together without finding anything suspect. I dug around some of my parts bins that I still have accessible and found an old one that I swapped when I rebuilt it a few years ago. I may swap it out this weekend.

Aside from that it runs like a champ.

I don't have the windows finished in the doors so I don't get to drive it very often now, moving has taxed the cruiser funds for a while. There are higher priority things right now.

Sure was West Glacier, we were in Kalispell for the weekend and decided to take the ride up the GNP to check out Lake McDonald in the winter. We have been there a few other times in the past but only in the summer. Totally different place in the winter.

We found -7° F just south of Flathead Lake on the way home!

I met a young man a couple of years ago from Fairbanks that grumbled about the fact that the digital thermometer in his FJCruiser only went to -40. I said it should have a message that flashes “STAY HOME!!!”

On a tech note, I can’t find the degree key on my keyboard. Where is it on yours?

Found it on my phone, Samsung, second layer of special characters.

We are there right now at my brother's in northwest Iowa.

That cold air is definitely working its way towards y'all!

I've been dicking with some small problems in my free time lately, now that the sub-zero temps have gone and made life miserable elsewhere. I am still having intermittent fuel issues with the carb, I changed out the needle valve and seat last weekend, ran it around for about 15 minutes, when I stopped in front of my garage I was noticing that the fuel level in the carb was above the sight glass. No big deal I thought, backed it in the garage and lifted the hood again, now the fuel level is right in the middle of the sight glass, so I decide to watch it for a few and see what happens. No surprise the fuel level keeps dropping and it eventually starves it self for fuel and dies, I get in and crank it over a few times to see if it would push some fuel to the carb. No dice. This weekend I am going to try to run it straight from a jerry can to eliminate the fuel tank and filter, or narrow it down to one of the two. I have a sneaky suspicion that there may be something floating around the fuel tank and getting caught up in the fuel line.

At the same time I started to have some funky problems on the ole' diesel dually, it acted like it was running short on fuel while I was out cutting firewood, sure enough when I got home I pulled the trouble code. The infamous lift pump failure that the Dodge diesels have been known for.

Two bad ass rigs and I can't get fuel to either engine.

All of my stuff starts giving me trouble when its cold. Nothing ever seems to break when its 65 and sunny.
