I have gathered information from various sources and used some calculations to estimate the most probable birthday of an FJ40 (month, day, and year).

While I can't guarantee complete accuracy, I believe that my research and calculations are accurate to within a day or so. Because of fluctuation of production numbers and few other factors some months are more accurate than others.

If you're interested in finding out your FJ40's most likely birthday, feel free to send me your VIN# or a direct message and I'd be happy to do the calculations for you.

PM incoming. Let's find out how old Barney is. 5/77.

Mine is so vain, for years she always lies about her age

I swapped a new frame into mine… are you able to estimate the frame’s age?

I know the cowl was July 74, and the hardtop was from an ‘81 diesel. Rear axle was from a ‘77 45 and the new front axle was a ‘76 with disc brakes. The split hood has to be ‘69 or earlier. The engine is from a ‘72 (fleet-side pickup). I’ll send a message sometime after the sun rises in 4 or so hours.1

Is the VIN# still on the frame? If so, send it to me.

Vin Number FJ40 936980

I'll play - FJ40 38991.
With a VIN# of 38991 your FJ40's most likely birthday is Tuesday October 5th, 1965. It also mostly likely rolled off the line right after lunch.

It is my understanding that FJ40 VIN#s topped out at 372173. Your number is much higher than that. Not sure what that means???

Maybe she is trying to hide her age

I did some research an it looks like the 9 at the beginning might mean it is a Venezuelan LC.

What year is your FJ40??

How about 301274?
With a VIN# of 301274, your FJ40's most likely was one of the last ones off the line on Thursday Febuary 22nd or one of the first ones off the line on Friday Febuary 23rd 1979.

Okay I’ll jump in. Feb 1974 FJ40170268. A few weeks before my first deployment. My avatar is me sitting on the bumper right after I bought it in October 1980.
