FYI. BLACK is IN STOCK! I had 100+ on hand, but somehow set inventory on the site to 0, so it wasn't available for at least a week. I thought you guys randomly stopped liking black when the orders switched over to all colors. Now it all makes sense, haha.

Fixed now and back in stock.

That's one way to sell some other inventory! :grinpimp:

No....we're not racist, it just wasn't available (we thought) :)

Guy at my Wife's office saw her new Key FOB shell and asked about it.

Said he had broken 5-6 of the plastic ones on his '98 L/C .

Sent him the YotaMD link this morning. I imagine he will be ordering soon.

Hell yeah, thank you! That sort of organic growth is what keeps this whole thing rolling without me spending every waking hour marketing like crazy. Very much appreciated!

No Sir...THANK YOU, for providing such a great product. It sells itself...once folks see it, but happy to help anyway we can.

My Friends Key came in yesterday. I offered to put it together for him since I've already done one and have all the tiny screwdrivers needed to open the original shell and also change out the battery.

I really like these things. Might just order another one for my spare key. The only difficulty I have with them is getting those itty- bitty nuts into the sockets of the FOB shell. They are very tight and at my age... the lack of dexterity in my hands makes that part of the otherwise simple process...a bit challenging.

Anyway, he will have his new key today. Thanks YotaMD.

Not trying to get OT, but I wonder if there is a company out there that makes magnetic ended allen keys? I know there are drill bits and screwdrivers in phillips head that are, so I can't imagine there isn't allen keys that have it?

Yes, the nuts are really tight on some of the recent batches of non-black colors. It's mostly due to the Cerakote thickness. The tolerance for those nut recesses is very slim so if the Cerakote goes on a little thick the nuts can be a real challenge. The good thing is they will not fall out on their own.

I keep tweaking the design, .001" at a time so that should get better and better over time.

Problem is, the only magnetic hardware I use is the black oxide screws and the keyring/clip. Everything else is stainless or titanium so it's non-magnetic.

Simple enough to magnetize 'small' screwdrivers and allen keys (most of mine are). Installing the screws is easy enough, placing the small 'nuts' into the case is probably the hardest part of assembling the unit (not that any of it is really difficult). You have to orient the nut to fit the pocket in the key shell and it is a 'press' fit.

I thread a nut onto one of the screws and begin pressing the nut down with that, then finish pushing it all the way down with a small brass punch I have. You don't want to bugger up the threads of the nut or cross thread a screw into one.

It all fits together with great precision....I'm not complaining and I'm sure that 65 yr. old eyes and hands (read can't see well or handle things) has something to do with it. Now....if I'd had a couple of beers first, it would probably go more smoothly. Or at least I would think it did. ;)

Ferritic stainless steels are generally magnetic, austenitic stainless steels usually are not. Not that it matters. Putting the screws in is not difficult at all.

All my stuff is 316 or 304. Therefore austenitic if I understand that classification correctly. But you're right, magnetism wouldn't help much in assembly.

Another method on those screws that I've used is to try to get it started and then turn the back upside down on a hard surface (countertop, metal desk, etc...) and press it in that way.

There ya go! You're smarter than the average bear. 👍

The wife bought me one for my birthday to replace the original key that was cracked and glued together at some point in its past. Really excellent product and far superior to the cheap fobs out there!

That looks great! Red is underrated in those kits. One of my early promo shots was red and I seemed to sell more then. Recently, I haven't posted many pics of red and it's been unloved.

Thanks for sharing the pic and I'm glad the quality came through.

Dr. Yota,
Please put me down for an HIHX key if that is going to be a thing.

It will be a thing and it will include something extra special this year!

If you had a color preference for such a thing, what would your top two choices be?

Tan like my original YotaMD Key or Black, which might be more universally popular :)

These are so good that you will go back for another one. I got black for the spare key a few weeks ago.
I love quality stuff because it lasts.
