Update for everyone on lead times: Lead times are slowly decreasing. Right now I'm sitting between 1 and 2 weeks for orders placed today. Some will go out sooner. If you've got a time sensitive issue reach out to me and we'll figure something out. By the end of this week I expect all August orders to have shipped and many from the first week of September.

"Beefy carabiners?" You mean there are "beefy carabiners"? Hum, must have missed that one. Wouldn't use it anyway, so no big deal.

Seriously though, great job Andy. I just took apart the old broken second key, put everything back together with the kit and everything fit great.

But when I tried locking or unlocking the car it wouldn't work and quickly realized the battery was probably dead.

So for those that need to replace it, it is a CR 1616.

Great job Andy! Thanks.

I think the "beefy carabiner" comment is referring to the spring clip. I think the clip is small for a carabiner, but stout for a key clip!

I have batteries and may offer them for a small add-on fee. I'd either have to charge a lot for name brand, reliable, domestic sourced batteries or charge average retail for Chinese Panasonic batteries of questionable quality. I'm leaning towards charging more for USA market name brand stuff, but don't want to seem like I'm gouging anyone.

I think I ordered a blue one but, I am not sure. But, I like the white color even more!

Haha, yeah my wife warned me that doing the video with the white one would just make people want white. Naturally, she was right. Fear not though, it'll be available at a later date *if* it passes the color check after a month or two. Again, the first time around it failed miserably without a clear coat. I'll be opening up options to get the plastics separately at a fraction of the initial fob kit cost.

Order placed, excited to get it!!

Thanks Andy!

Woot! Thanks!

These things are neat! Very solid!

Nicely put together package. Appreciate the extra parts in case of fumbling fingers.

Got mine all put together in a few minutes. Took more time to find the instructional video than it did to put it together! Not all have fancy 'smart' phones;)

Got mine, everything went together great. A cool option would be a version that will work with the valet key, with a spot to stick the chip from the card into the key body.

I like it! Great craftsmanship and excellent fit!! :steer:

I do not buy a lot of things online so I hate to ask this question but will we get a email confirmation when the item is going to ship ? Not in a hurry, just curious...

Ordered an orange one today. Figure it'll be easy to spot. Never thought I'd be so excited about a key.

Hmm... I'm intrigued. That sounds very doable, but I need to learn more about this valet key chip you speak of. I assume that's a part of the Lexus wallet key or something?

Nice job on the upgraded key body Andy..........just placed my order! RED! Easy to spot.....

Thanks!

Looking good!

There is an automated tracking notice from Paypal that *should* go out once I (or more commonly my wife) enters tracking after we've shipped it. Unfortunately that automated email seems to be hit or miss. If you're curious about shipment timing don't hesitate to send me a message with your name or transaction ID or some order identifier and I'll let you know where you are in the queue. Most orders should be shipping within two weeks. Tomorrow we should be shipping all orders placed up through the end of August.

The lead times are slooowly dropping as I learn what the ongoing demand is. There are 20+ components per kit and it's got my head spinning at times trying to manage quantities of everything, haha. I can design and fabricate all day, but I'm certainly no inventory specialist!

The orange is great for that! I think the orange is still my favorite, but the clear coating has made all the colors look fantastic.

It's easy to be excited about a good key when you've been using a flimsy one for so long! :) I think I'd cringe using an OEM key at this point. I can imagine it now and it feels like... well like this video at 5:57

@suprarx7nut ... not sure what style key I have. Looks like I'm going to have to break it in order to tell. It's my only key :( Have you any idea which this one might be? Looks like the i version. The blade is anchored in a plastic footing that will need to be broken off to be sure. I can't be without my truck for 2 weeks.

I encountered the exact same problem trying to figure out which style I had. Couldn't break my key and be without my truck for 2wks so I found a way around it. Check my post #102 on pg.6 of this thread to see my method for finding out while still maintaining the functionality of the key:

I'll post this up for other people who run into this same issue. But in order to see what key base you have you must crack it out of the OEM shell (at least in my case I had to). Unfortunately, this is my last functioning key for my truck so I cannot risk cracking it out of the shell and then going without a key until the new one comes in. I don't have another car to drive in the meantime either. So I found out if you get a small flathead screwdriver (or X-Acto knife or any blade) you can chisel away at the plastic on one side of the base of the key. If you begin to see metal that extends beyond the width of the key blade, then you have the "T" style base. If not then you have the "I" style base. See the pic below for clarification. In my case the base of the key encased in the plastic is wider than the key blade so I have the "T" style.

Looks like what I had, I went ahead a broke my key and was able to put it into the new assembly with no issues.

To be clear, you don't need to know which style you have before you order. I had a temporary request to notify me of the style to help with early orders, but that has passed. Now the kits ship with hardware to accommodate all styles. There is one very rare style (<2% of people) that will work, but doesn't have a center screw hole so it is not held as firmly as other styles. I'm working on an optional part to improve that odd style key as well.

That being said... I would ALWAYS recommend you have a back up key so that you're not tearing apart the only key you have. My product aside, I'd very strongly encourage anyone to buy a cheap key or two off Amazon just so you have more than one key. Something like this, maybe: http://amzn.to/2wct1Br . Verify your model for compatibility on the Amazon keys!

Just got my tracking information can't wait. Ordered on August 20th, nice turn around time in my opinion.

@TheForger and @crimsonaudio .... THANKS! That worked perfectly. Chiseled just a bit and can see metal. I have a "T" style key AND it still functions! I LOVE this forum! @suprarx7nut ... order for an orange one in T style coming your way!
