It’s said the best thing you can buy for your old Land cruiser is a reliable economy commuter car!

Zee block, crank, etc are home. 15’ or so me alone moved it on the hoist to the stand into the garage. Lots of going slow, shifting sections of plywood and using a 2x4 as a lever to pull backward over my lumpy driveway pavement. It only took me from about 1:40 to 3:07... ha! not bad for a skinny CT chick.

Stock rods, new wrist pins, oversized ITM piston and ring set, resurfaced flywheel, ground and polished crank undersized .25mm.

Now all you lack is finishing.

Well it’s here... I shouldn’t say this but it’s really just looks exactly like the only other new car I ever had, a ‘02 Kia Rio. Checked out the engine, it’s clean, little build up of corrosion at the battery hold down bar, undercarriage is fairly clean, fuel/brake lines a million times in better shape than the Nissan, control arm k member has a little rust, disc brakes front and rear, clutch is tight, AC works, nice stereo speaker sound.

Regarding oiling the block, would a spray can of WD40 be good enough? I’d prefer spraying to wiping. Does it really matter?

Mazda 4 cylinders are bullet proof. Had a Mazda 626 did 200 miles a day at 80 mph didn't use a drop of oil between changes up to 285k. Got rid of it because it needed a windshield and tires and my commute went to 8 miles/day.

Personally I would mask off and paint the block like right now. Then just wipe motor oil on the bores, cam bearings and bearing journals. Oil the piston assembles and crank. You don't want to oil before painting IMHO.

I’ll get it done before the weekend is done but going into my ‘work week’ right now. Thank you for the advice, I figured as much to not oil then paint. For now it’s greasy and bagged in plastic in the garage. Thank you!

Good to hear your words on the Mazda. It’s so not what I would have chose if I’d been less impulsive but it’s what it is. Decent little car, bigger than the Nissan. Dogs will fur it up fast so going to try to get some seat covers for it.
And yes @Willard, they had a good laugh at me because I ‘had’ to have a stick. :) Apparently the lady who traded it in had a wrist issue and needed an auto so they were able to swap her into a ‘14 Mazda. She told them ‘I’m from Australia so let the new buyer know that’s all we drive down there so I was easy on the clutch!’

This guy swears by WD40 as an undercoating. The secret is to let the dust stick to it which forms the barrier

I’ve heard the same w/ old motor oil. Spray it on and go for a drive on a dirt road. It would just stink tho... fluid film does too as does the linseed.

Taped and painted earlier. Came home to it dry and added another coat over the 3/4 light ones. Pulled the tape, paper and cloth I’d added in the 50mm freeze plug holes. Looks awesome. Added the plastic bag and getting dinner ready.
And I LOVE my little Mazda. Holy Zoom Zoom! Also yesterday brought my uncles truck back to him in RI and he let me drive his new to him ‘17 Miata home. I didn’t spin the tires.. “chirp” is his word, but it definitely was fun until we hit over an hour of barely 5mph traffic on 395.

I want to get two bumper stickers... one says ‘my other car goes ZOOM ZOOM’ and the other would say ‘my other car goes tappa tappa.’

@Onur anychance you can tell me, the freeze plug for the rear of the cam? Off assembly 8/86, ‘87 FJ60. Seems the shop might have inadvertently tossed mine. I did find it listed as 90331-48010, and available still. Can you tell me if that’s correct? Please and thank you!
