Maybe just unscrew everything and use Teflon tape on the threads.

Is it as easy as that? The tank will just empty of all air right? How do I empty it prior to unscrewing all that and then how do I refil it?

Shut off the compressor. Pull the round ring on the pressure relief valve. Don't unscrew anything until it's fully depressurized.

Then, take the threaded connections apart and seal with teflon tape. It will likely be 100% effective.

Then just plug the compressor back in and fill up the tank. Nothing special to do.

There may be some really nasty water in the tank. Drain it all out.

Awesome. Thanks for the detailed directions.
I drained it after it ran before and a teaspoon of gray water came out then it ran clear for another teaspoon or two.

Relaxing after dinner... s’mores are always an excuse on the leftover coals.

There's no plumbed drain on the bottom of the tank? Usually they have one with a valve you turn to drain the tank.
It does. I checked a bit ago after I’d opened it and it drained out a bunch more, not too dirty.

plumbing section in the hardware store will have a valve, elbow and pipes. Here' mine. notice how the valve is sticking out a little so you don't have to reach under the tank. Use this to bleed the water off and to drain the tank. Wear hearing protection if you pull that relief valve but really no reason unless you just want to exercise it or make sure it works.

Sorry I didn't get back to you. I was o n a plane headed for Colorado. What @Cruiserdrew said is correct.

when I rebuild my back deck I removed some of the rotten 6x6 support posts. They were just rotten at the ground. I cut them into 2 ft sections and use them all the time. I stand on one or stack them. I place them in front of the truck and at the front wheels to help get up there.

Wood pallets are a good, solid platform to stand on, stackable and some places give them away

Damn @g-man that is almost the same as mine... I need to put a small drain in like that.
Looks like what I did.
If you look at the bottom of his compressor on the pic, you see there is a huge pipe fitting cap.
After draining out all of the air, I removed this to drain any extra crap out of the bottom of the compressor (let it sit overnight). then installed the cap back in and then the pipe and ball valve.

Gives you time to do the compressor oil change and fix the plug.

Oil change was done but yes agreed on timing to do drain when the tank has been purged of air. I’m finding and realising it’s way harder to get tasks accomplished w/ kid around. I’m also in the process of making a rain barrel so when I went to pick up the 3/4” npt 14 tap for that at Tractor Supply I found some of the fittings I needed for that, including a pressure gauge to potentially check the oil cooler and that was about it. It’s hard to focus w/ a kid talking 110% of the time I’m in a store w/ him! I’m pretty lucky I managed to get half the stuff on my to buy list.

Quick walk at the river in an attempt to find toad eggs but seems the excessive rain washed them all to the other side or somewhere we weren’t walking as far too. Found this frame in the woods and took a couple trick pics.

Cool project, and my own 60 project is about a year late as the boys would rather hang with dad.
Enjoy it now.......
Do you know Dave? I tried pulling the depressurise valve to empty all the air, left the water drain open too. Pulling the valve I get no hissing at all. Does that mean it’s empty? The seller added a second hookup on the end as well w/ a regulator and a T below. Would I open the T?

That T handle is a pressure regulator. I’d have to see a bit more of how it’s set up to understand which connection, if not both, it regulates the flow to.
Ok, yeah that what me and @evilorgoodtwin might have figured out. Also guessingbthat since both valves are showing zero that the tank is already depressurised. I’m in now relaxing. Will check it out more tomorrow. Thank you!
