Yep the carbon literally turns liquid and runs out. Lots of smoke too. Let us know how it goes.

What about cutting that pipe down to maybe 2-inches and running a new length of PCV hose to it? You could also cut the carb fan temp sensor tab off and salvage that as well. You'd still have to clear the sludge, but not as much. It might make future cleaning easier too.

Nah, cutting it is a good thought but I 'reckon' that pipe is that long on purpose to keep the rubber further from the heat of the manifolds.
I was already w/ my torch... got it to light once but then it went out and won't light again. Pipe is back in the dip. I was able to scrape out enough of the carbon to feel the lip of the hole into the pipe so it seems the dip is helping some.

Ok thinking out loud here....
I could do that MAF plate but once read a theory that the section of egr pipe that juts into the intake almost acts like a breaker from the cold gas hitting the intake. If the pipe isn't there then cold gas hits it straight on. Idk. I'm iffy about ditching it.
But if that person isn't desmogged then his egr is active and adds heat to that pipe right? So w/ a desmogged truck then the egr is eliminated and that section of pipe jutting into the intake isn't doing squat except only slightly diverting the cold gas from hitting ground zero right?

You are over-thinking this. The 2F is a cast-iron, 50's technology tractor motor. All the pollution crap were stop-gap measures to keep governments off their back until they had to go with more efficient/modern motor designs. A 2F runs just fine without the EGR and all the other crap too.

Correct. If the theory about the cracks is true, likely, then without hot exhaust gas blowing through the pipe, your intake is vulnerable. You still don't want it if you're not required to keep it. EGR's cause problems.
Headers would solve the hot/cold cracking but they then introduce poor cold weather start up running.
Everything's a trade off.

So I finished the exhaust horns from the molasses bath, scraped and added one coat of high temp to them as well. Welder says this week he'll have the intake welded up, guess they were crazy last week. No big rush anyhow since I still need to get the supplies for putting her all back together. Thanks to jim(@Cruiser Jimmy) and Brad (@Breitz6989) who've helped w/ some extras they had hanging around.
I thinking I might pickup the heat rider block off plate from MAF as well as the egr block off plate too and ditch the attempts to open up the blocked pcv hard line.
Not much happening here tho seeing as we are in the midst of a snomegeddon... expected depth of 20+". Obligatory cruiser snow storm start pix...

If a bear falls in the tree and no one is around to see it, does it still make a sound?! Don't want to hear about you getting blown up randomly.. Always good to have as a "just-in-case" measure.
Seems like you are going to be stuck inside for a bit so I would keep playing with it where you can. Maybe try soaking it in your molasses bath too?

So I got my intake back... No charge because he did not have a 'cup' to fit into the carb side?? So they baked it twice at 200 then he opened it up w/ metal wheel from the backside and put a couple drill holes at either end and filled it. The crack is more visible from the carb side but I'm guessing it's cuz the weld pushed it downward which opened its edges but not necessarily opened the crack?
I put in some calls to a few other welders and am now attempting to check how level it is.

I think he shoulda welded both sides, but it'll be fine as is...
You might give these a try, if you want to seal the carb side. They "melt" with any propane torch to patch aluminum. A few vids on youtube show the process.

I think the welder is saying he couldn't reach down in the carb side with his TIG torch. Should be fine as long as it doesn't leak.

More or less. He said he doesn't have a special fitting he called a cup to get into there. So I shouldn't worry?

And the weld he did leave is pretty rough. I thought maybe I should try to smooth out the lower edge. There's a few buggery lumps leftover.
Yep bust out the Dremel if you want and smooth it out. I wouldn't do anything with carb side if it's airtight. The less heat and fooling around with cast aluminum the better.
