Majdomo,
Not to add to your list, but… while you have the carpet out maybe add some sound deadening? The biggest task for me was getting the old stuff up and it makes such a huge improvement! I realize it’s wack a mole with everything on your plate, just a helpful suggestion. Also, I used an ozone machine to help with the with the odors.
Great work!

Thanks - it is miles quieter than my FJ40 as it is, but that's probably not saying much! The sound deadening is a... question for me. This thing is so original that I'm really reluctant to mess with it too much. On the other hand, it would really help with the noise. I'll already have to redo the headliner, so maybe it's less of a thing than I'm making it out to be. But it's super easy to pull the carpet and interior, so maybe down the road?

It is already much less smelly this morning than it was yesterday, which is great, but there's now a bunch of spiders that are coming out of the woodwork to make webs everywhere. Too funny.

Those are silent protestors. Protesting what? The rumor that you’re trying to de-bug the truck.

They have the same hive mind as the Borg: resistance is futile!😛

No luck on the second VCV.☹️

The mud daubers in the garage are very happy to feast on the spiders that hitched a ride down! I don't even bother killing them, the wasps handle it for me. Circle of life. :)

Thanks for checking on the VCV!

Yup. I try to tell the Neighbors who spend $$ on pest control goons who just spray poison all over the places their kids play.

Wasps, both mud daubers and paper wasps (they make those cellular nests under eves), are natural Black Widow control. Yellow jackets too, but they can become aggressive if you swat at them.

Which VCV is needed?

Yup - they keep me company while wrenching. There's one behind my surfboard and takes out all the spiders in the rig. Yellowjackets are bad news though, fortunately they don't really want to hang out inside.

It's the one with the green label (I think it's actually a VSV) 89570-60070. Mine is very dead and one of the wires broke right off at the solenoid body.

I looked. I don't have one of those... Paul @pds420 might?

Where is this located? I have an '83 i parted a lot of stuff out on, but the engine is still in the truck. I'll look and see if this is intact.
It's on the driver's side fender, near all the big air hoses and such. Here's a photo of it on my rig, it's the one on the left with the failed repair on the wire. Also if you have that thermosensor that goes into the cat converter, with the green plug on the end. Not critical for smog but would be good to have!

Copy. Not a 60 guy so clueless about where all these little bits live. Will report back tonight.

Thank you!!

@Spike Strip Do you know if it is absolutely necessary to have that to run smog? I have time this afternoon and can throw the other one back on for visual if it's only marginal to the results...

IIRC, both those VSVs are necessary for Air Injection to work properly. So yes, I'd make sure you have a functional one.

E85 is your friend. ;)

Yeah thought so. Was just looking at the emissions FSM and the table is pretty detailed on when that one is on and off (labeled VSV 2 here). Will hold off until it's in place. The one that Mark @65swb45 had in stock (VSV 1) works great.

Yes, The Air Injection system is the lynch-pin of this era emissions crap.

Sorry, looks like it went with someone who bought some parts.

No problem, thank you! How much would you want for that pigtail though? Mine is all chewed up, it's the green one towards the bottom of the photo (closest to the front of the rig), unless you are keeping the harness together?

Tell me how long you want the wires and you can have for the cost of a small flat rate box. I also have a non mouse poop infested rear heater :p
