Unless you can find good used cheap, you can get various Japan made Aisin VCVs on RockAuto that will work well for the same price as used. But you'll also have to get a pig-tail connector. ToyotaMatt will know which one. I have the part # somewhere, for the generic pigtail that are cheap on ebay.

If I can find the Toyota part number (I've posted on MUD before) there's a substitute still available that has the built in lead, but you'll have to de-pin the 'T' connector and reuse the round green one.

Right on - I was going to get in touch with a few sources to see if I can find good used. I'll do some searching for that thread too.

Hey Alf - was it this one? Do the VSVs all work the same aside from open / closed with no voltage applied?

EDIT - here's the part for the one on the doodad on the back, looks like this:

Yes, that's the one.

Don't know if they all work the same. The ones above (I think) are normally closed (blocks flow of vacuum) when not energized. Generally, the VCVs with the 'tail' and the little round black filter thingy are closed when unenergized and the tail filter is to release the vacuum after cycling and keep contaminates out.

Pigtails from the junkyard. :)

These were from the wrong VSVs, as the ones that you linked to from Rockauto are buried between the firewall and the block on a late 90s Camry, and I wasn't about to get under a junkyard car to pull it. These pigtails came off the vapor recirc solenoids on the Camry, which is right at the top of the engine. Had the time, it was $3 entry day at LKQ Sun Valley, and I scored a Mexican Coke from the carrito at the entrance.

I think the Toyota Part # is 90980-11162, but if you buy from Mr. T, you only get the housing. ebay search that Part # and you'll get aftermarket pigtails.

But with the pigtails, there all diff part #s that will work since they're all now with the newer style connectors.

That Pick a part is scary, but probably empty now that ICE is circling the Valley  💡

Yeah it's like walking through a post-apocalyptic Mad Max movie set. One of my favorite places to visit for an afternoon. And it WAS weirdly empty compared to the many other times I've been there...that could be why. 🤷‍♂️

A couple weeks ago, I went to the North Hollywood Home Depot on Sherman Way, at lunch time. I parked and was walking to the entrance, when everybody started running like crazy. I f'ing thought there was a gang shooting or something going on and crouched down. Then I saw the ICE vans and some guys dressed in tac gear and I knew. On my way out, the Taco Truck in the front was empty and the side door wide open. The operators had vanished and left everything cooking. Beans were boiling over onto the stovetop. I went inside and turned off all the burners locked the door and left. I used to get burritos there a couple times a week, but now the food truck is gone and the parking lot is empty.

...and the exhaust temp sensor is bad. PN 89425-69035. Getting 0 reading on it with my ohmmeter. It doesn't seem 100% required to pass smog but who knows if the cat is fried because the sensor went bad...?

Is it the original CAT?

Unlikely.

Don't freak when you see the cost and or availability of new CARB FJ60 cat

I wouldn't worry about replacing until you get your smog test results.

FWIW, there's a LOT of confusion now on how Trump's rules have actually eliminated/effected CARB or not. The Federal EPA exemption that has allowed CARB to function independently and set tighter standard than Fed regulations, has been rescinded. Of course, no one is above the law except unelected Kalifornia Bureaucrats, so they seem to be ignoring it pending litigation.

Does this mean you have to buy a CARB CAT? I dunno. According to the law, Kalif is now same as Fed regulations...

Know anyone out of state who can send you one?

Oh, that Thermosensor isn't necessary for smog.

Really good points. Agreed and will wait to see how it does on the sniffer before throwing $ at a new cat. It is SO DUMB that the cat converters are identical for these rigs except the CARB stamp and the ridiculous Kalif. markup.

I am not going to talk about what I did to get the 62 to pass smog.

When I lived in Calirado I would do a trick to dump fresh air into the exhaust. It’s been years since I’ve had to do it, but there’s a thread somewhere. I took a copper bb and stuck it in a vac line to close a valve which dumped fresh air into the exhaust. Tangentially, I would get the engine raging hot, open the carb and a bottle of filtered water and dump a cap full of water into the carb. Passed every time with no hanky panky in the tank. Until I didn’t pass and I moved out of state.

This is good to know. I'll have to do a little research and check it out.

Drilled out the cap on the idle mixture screw (that was fun), reset timing and set lean drop. Idles nice and smooth at 660-680 with 18" vacuum at 7*. That's more like it.

Need one last part and then it's off to the smog man.

Shampooed EVERYTHING today and pulled the carpets, got more turds out. This carpet is fairly shot but it's low on the list for now.

Smells about 30% less rank but stuff is still a little damp, it'll dry out by tomorrow. All the turds were stuck in the little nooks of the seat supports and under the rear heater. I took out the mounting bolts and lifted it just a little to get under there. A 7:1 water to bleach solution wiped on with a paper towel really helped.

At least it's just mouse turd funk and not valet BO stink! ;) :grinpimp:

It's so gross. All of that helped some but I think the real stink is in the padding underneath, hopefully that goes away or I burn the carpet in a pile on the driveway.
