If you are trying to make it 'right', paint it... if you are like me, leave it.

But, separate the new tank from the metal, with something that doesn't trap moisture and cause rust.

Okay I have a question - should I paint my rust treated area or just leave it as is? I'm thinking of just leaving it silver since it is not visible. Seems like a waste of expensive rattle can freeborn red...

Thoughts?

Hey I have a can I just bought and won't end up using...Just shoot me some cash for shipping, PM me if interested.

Might as well paint it - otherwise you're gonna be seeing it in your dreams - forever!

Picked up some little bug so progress has been slow. I ordered the firewall gasket like others have suggested and cut out a big section of it - nearly 3/8" which you really can't do more otherwise it cuts into the hole (yes my cuts were sloppy but I had planned on gluing it together so didn't really matter). As you can see it mashes the gasket and there is no way I can fit the other half in. If people were successful with this can you please give me some insight? For my 75 I'll just cut the hole bigger before paint...

Guess I should've tried mashing it in there a little harder the first few times. Gluing it together now.

Got some painting done too - I sure hope I remember how to reassemble that wiper motor setup... Still needs a clear coat.

And love the school bus yellow for the jack crank. Too bad my jack is cracked... :(

So was the trick with the heater hose gasket to just mash it in there really good? Was working the hoses in there fairly straightforward after the fact? I've been toying with having the shop just make that hole the same size as the firewall heater hose hole...

You have to remove about 3/8" of material between the holes. It actually will cut just a hair into the holes which isn't ideal. And then when they are mashed in there the holes are no longer round. But the rubber is supple enough to pass the hose through. I think making the hole bigger is the way to go honestly and I will definitely be doing that on my 75.

Decided to paint the rust treated area. Thank you to @drock2 for sending the paint! I must say that the Cruisercorps freeborn red isn't the greatest match in the world - pretty dark. No problem here this gets completely covered. Looks good now just waiting on that tank...

And clear coated the windshield wiper motor housing - I doubt it looked this good new! Now of course I'm looking at the rear view mirror arm and think that looks pretty nasty guess I'll be blasting and painting that too. Oh and the housing on other end of the windshield wiper setup that controls the driver side wiper. The lifetime project as I was told... :)

Did a little more painting, well I guess priming. I ended up repairing the jack with JB Weld - figured it will probably never get used (knock on wood) so I'm making it look purdy.

Wiper motor housing primed as well as mirror arm.

Now the plastic mirror back looks like crap. Guess I'll have to find a close plastic paint match... The worm hole gets deeper. Sigh.

Here is the filler neck - it has some minor rust on it. Should I worry about that? I can blast it clean but then it will have no protective coating (what's left of the zinc coating). I can paint the outside no problem but what about the inside?

10 minutes with a dremel and make the floor hole the same as the firewall. Easy peasy. Racer65 needs to make this thing! :)
I also molded one by hand. Came out good but way too much fidley work.
I think this is also a candidate for a 3D printer.

I'm definitely going to make the hole the same size as the firewall on my 75. makes sense should that grommet ever need to be replaced again (hopefully not but you never know).

Yeah, I was up at the shop two days ago and took the heater hose grommet in with me... they are going to make the fuel line hole bigger to match. This was a timely subject.

Fuel tank looks nice man! As does the repainting floor pan.
