Driving out of town today to go visit family, it started getting sluggish in 3rd & 4th gear around a quarter throttle. Like it was starving of fuel. The last time it did this I could see the filter was fouled up. After changing the filter last weekend it was fine. Picture of the first filter below.

After changing the fuel filter last weekend, I drove quite a bit and had no issues of it since until today about an hour into my drive and almost immediately after fueling up. Most of the drive was 4th gear at about 50mph to 55mph.
I pulled off to the side of the road and swapped out the 1 week old fuel filter to a brand new one (I keep a few in the glove box). It wasn't very dirty but there was this slug of some sort. Even with a brand new filter I was having the same issue. I turned around and limped it home at about 40mph. Any more than that and it would start missing. It backfired on me a couple times too. On the way back I though maybe the pick up tube in the tank was plugging and getting restricted. I blew it out with the air compressor back at the house but saw no improvement.

another option for the finish is to use a polishing wheel with compound. I used Meguiar's Mirror Glaze Pro Speed Compound on a foam wheel. I was quite happy with the results.

After - I did wet sand it to remove the reddish brown spray paint. I was going for patina charm so I think it worked out.

Hopefully you can sort out your running issues. I wonder if it's worth draining the gas tank? I just purchased a new OEM Toyota tank for mine. Previoulsy I purchased the poly tank and it wasn't a great fit for my truck at all.

I mentioned previously here the issue I was having with the fuel/timing cutting out in 3rd and 4th gear past about quarter throttle. I got a new fuel pump that I was going to put on but noticed this morning that 1 side of the carb is cleaner than the other and wonder if this is an indication of something?

Might indicate that your secondary is not opening. Maybe your linkage isn't working or you're not putting your foot into it enough...

Thanks for the input. When I would put my foot into it and floor it, it would sputter and about completely die until I lifted.
That's not normal, we should probably try to fix that.
