Who has taken the plunge into 17's and what are you rolling on? I'm getting ready to replace my fj cuiser steely's and spacers with something new and want to take the 17 plunge just want to see some examples for perspective.

Just to confirm, when you say FJ Cruiser, you mean this, right?

http://www.blessthisstuff.com/stuff/vehicles/cars/toyota-fj-cruiser-by-xplore-vehicles/

and not putting 17" on a FJ60.

Sorry let me be more clear.
I presently run FJ cruiser steel wheels on my 1985 fj60. I have spacers to make up for the back spacing. The fj cruiser wheels are 16 inch and I would like more options in tires and will replace the above wheels with 17 inch wheels. SO with that said has anyone found 17 inch steel wheels with 3.68 ish backspacing that they are using on their fj60 and how do you like them? Pictures?

Personally I'd stick with 16's...17's just look wrong to me on the FJ60-62.

matt-
I think cruiserpilot runs 17" black steeiies on his rig.

cruiserpilot's wheels and info are on post #80 of THIS same thread.

Thanks that's a good option. I'm not sure I want to trust 4 inch backspacing but alas everyone does their own research. When I went High Steer I was hoping that the TRE would just miss but alas they don't the calipers don't rub but turning is hell on the side walls. I know lots of people like the spacer option and with 6 thousand miles on them I have no complaints but I would rather not use them just another thing to potentially fail.

17 inch FJ cruiser black steel 7.5 wide wheels work on the front axle without modifications (no wheel spacer)... I just test fitted some on my truck this weekend and they are installed right now with 35*12.5 tires... they work on the front. At the rear the same wheel puts the tire to close to the inside wheel well (where at least on my truck there are some sharp edges). WIth the FJ cruiser steel wheels on the rear axle it looks to me that you need a 1.5 inch spacer (with 35*12.5*17 tires) .

I have this running on my truck right now...FJ Cruiser 17 inch black steels wheels, 35/12.50/17 tires. No spacers no mods on the front axle...wheels clear. With these tires (width) I'm running 1.5 spacers at the rear...probally would work with 1 inch or so. The tire gets too close to the inside wheel wheel. Yes Im maxed on the tire size for my setup...but teh wheels work as noted. Later on I will purchase teh below noted 98 series rock crawler wheels and not screw with spacers at all.

Now I do think the cruiser wheels are a little too narrow for the tires I now have, but they are a temp solution until I can order some custom wheels. I plan on ordering some of these in the near future
PCW98-7983S3.5
17 x 9 6 x 5.5 3.5BS

edit...on the trail you need 1.5 spacer at the rear...not sure yet on what works for the front to address tire scrub if anything...I'll have to look further into that or I may just buy differtn wheels as noted above... NO issue if on the street for the front.

Ponied up the cash and got a set of Eagle Alloys 100 Series 16x8 3.65 BS; put a old set of BFG All Terrain 265/75r16 on.

No issues with clearance. In fact it seems like the is a bit more than the stock rims.

What spacers are you running? I just picked up a set of 4Runner Limited "5 star" wheels and I've been trying to figure out what kind of spacers I need. Do I need something that's lugcentric where it bolts to the axle and hubcentric where the wheel mounts? I'm kind of lost in all the wheel tech lol.

lug centric on FJ60 and I'm running 1.5 spidertrax spacers... you can buy at Slee and or their own web site and other places I assume. I don't know specifics on the wheels you are talking about and it would also depend on tire size. DO you know if those wheels will bolt up and mount to the fj60? dumb ? but are they 6 lug?

@Elbert
They are 6 lug, hubcentric wheels, that's why I wasn't sure what to get. I still haven't had time to check the clearance on my 60 yet, but I was planing to do so this weekend before I order anything.

This is a google image of the wheel:

Well I'm not the wheel expert...what I can say is that the 60 is lug centric....and I'm using a lug centric spacer even now with the present FJ Cruiser steel wheels I'm running. I "assume" the same lug centric wheel spacer would work for you......now what I don't know is...the back spacing on the wheels in question and if there are any issue on clearance with the above noted wheel. The FJCruiser wheels are 17 inch and clear things ok, but as I noted with the tires I'm running I had to gain some space out from the inside wheel well as I was getting hard tire scrub on the inside rear fender well. My tires at present are fairly large and even with the spacer I may still have an issue. I'm going to get some HD axle bump stops to help control that as well, or at least try. I've not had time yet to explore fully issues with tire scrub on the front.

Please note...I'm using the wheel spacer to address tire fit issues...not wheel fit issues.

Picking a set of wheels with all this math is like algebra. :(

My FJ62 stockers are looking really rough. So I have been looking at Summit and other sites for something new. I noticed there are very few wheels with less than 4" backspacing. I want an alloy wheel in chrome, yep, I said it. (call me old school, but I just don't dig the black look) I like the Eagle Alloys 140 series here: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/aew-1402-8894 They have a 4.5 ish backspace. I read that many on this thread used EA's and they seem to work, so I figured I would start there.

Anyone try these out and if so did you run into any issues?

I think most that run anything over 4" of backspacing will have to run a wheel spacer of some sort (think you will have to do 1.5" if you run those in 4.5) as the stock backspacing for the FJ60/62 is 3.625". Should you run something with more backspacing you run the possibility of hitting the TRE with the rim which can cause steering issues and/or damage. So I would seriously look at those wheels and put them on the lugs, turn lock to lock to see if they contact anywhere.

You should check out the Kmc enduro. They come black and machined. If you don't care about going up to a 16 inch rim they come in a 15 with 3.76 BS. You only need a .25in spacer on the front to clear TRE's
