Looking for input here. Not looking to fully restore this FJ by any means. Just merely looking for a weekend cruiser during the summer. Only would put $ into making it reliable/safe to drive a few hours each weekend.

Any thoughts on what this is worth or how much I should offer the seller? It’s been sitting for years in a warehouse but last I knew it did run and drive.

Thanks!

Not worth anything because most of the good 'Toyota' stuff is gone. That's just a body with aftermarket parts thrown at it.

I wouldn't even consider but if you don't care at all and like the 'look', then $5k is the most I'd be willing to spend on it.

EDIT: Since it is a '73 and has the reverse light, that is about all of the value to me, especially if it still has factory drums up front

That truck would be better if you pulled the top and doors off, made it a FST and put stock wheels and some 33s on. But I'm lame and really like the factory look.

A rotten body at that. Axles hold some value as do hood, bib, bezel, lights and probably some interior bits and pieces. Most of the rest of it is of no value. Don't buy it, but if you do, don't pay more than $2K.

From the pics of the rocker, it appears to be a Bondo bucket. No telling what's underneath all that shiney paint. If the 1973 backup light is a stock and in good shape, it's probably worth a $1000. The spreader bars going across the door opening will be a pain in the ass.

$2k is far more accurate, you're right. $5k was being super generous.

Whats the going rate for used bondo?

I mean, if he's going to pay you to get rid of it sure.....but if he expects you to pay for it...pass.

Probably not. It may end up being a nightmare. Look in the in the Classified section on this site, scroll down to FJ40/BJ40 section. You' ll find solid unmolested and built vehicle's too. What are they asking for it?

The seller is one of those people who buys anything and let’s it sit for years so really isn’t an asking price for it. It’s going to be more of a “here’s what I’d offer” deal. Last I knew he paid $4k for it nearly 10 years ago but that doesn’t mean anything to me. Thoughts?

In the 1st pic the rocker doesn't have a hole, in another pic there's a hole. Did the bondo just fall out? There's no telling what lies underneath in other places. The rear sill could be ruff. Someone who is willing to cover rust holes with bondo and no real metal repair is problematic. The Rear fender opening have been cut. I don't mind SBC's if they're done correctly, there's some sketchy wiring and some plumbing that is hacked. The rockers, 1/4"s and rear sill are the 1st thing to go. Dont get caught up with the lipstick. You would be better off with a something solid un restored than something pretty and cheap. I'd bet he wants something well north of 4k. I wont deal with someone who wants me to make an offer 1st. I cant sell it and buy it at the same time.

I believe the only thing on this truck '73 is the back up light, if indeed it is correct. The front direction signals aren't correct for '73, the windshield wipers at lower windshield started 01/75. The running boards also appear to be later model. You might check that frame number to see what this is. Oh, and be sure to look for tons of rust. These things will completely eat your bank account.

Timmy makes a good point. There should be a vin# in the right front frame horn just behind the bumper. At a minimum, this # should be on the title, and the A pillar .

He’s sort of a family friend so not actively looking to rip me off I think it’s more that he doesn’t know what (or what he doesn’t) have. So just trying to get an idea if it’s something I could buy and put a few thousand into to make it safe.

WTF is up with those headers?

Worthy of Mark's "Wall of Shame" thread.

I think I got tetanus just looking at the pics.
