Awesome color on that 43. I bet you're going to find all kinds of Easter eggs in that one.
Yes sir...the paint work is pretty nice and the color sure does pop. Everything is an easter egg for me on this truck as I have very little hands on experience with 40 series. I'll post the pic from my phone, but what they engineered to replace a lost/broken PB adjuster is very interesting.

So I’ve been slowly working on this 43. Had to order some parts and sourced a used Trans from @cwwfj60. The 43 owner actually bought the whole drivetrain from Cody which will give him spare parts for the future.
This has been a fun project as I’m learning some new things having never worked on an early 40. T-case is back in and hope to get the parking brake rebuilt sometime in the next few days.

Also had the pleasure of working with AJ (AJ’s Yotas in Austin) on a 5-speed conversion into one of his customers 62. Working as a team we did the conversion in just under 3 days soup to nuts.

So I’ve been lame with general updates. Started a new business (Senior in-home care) late 2023 so been very busy during the day. Yep…the goal is I’ll have enough experienced caregivers that I won’t have to depend on either of my two boys to change my diapers at some point in the distant future :).

Had the chance to work on @davegonz ‘s 40 after he sold it to a buyer in CO. Very nice truck and did a few baseline jobs before she shipped north.

As of this weekend I’ve embarked on another 60 paint job. Helping @landsnoozer with his 61. He’s a fast learner so we spent the weekend prepping his roof (and correcting a few rust issues. First time pulling the A-pillar gutter which I’ve wanted to do ever since following @Hokie LX and @GLTHFJ60 swap a roof skin. Did not need to cut the gutter free which saved me some welding in the channel.
As all other 60’s I paint them in 3-4 stages. Helping Mason with the prep work on the roof and will shoot it in the next few weeks. From there he will own the prep work for the rest of the tub, front clip and the doors. Should be a fun truck to shoot.

I was wondering when there was going to be an update on this truck! Are you going to be doing the sunroof glass at the same time?
Hey Allen, we are definitely going to give it a try. We removed the old one as well as the headliner. I’ve done a few 60 headliners and this one with the high roof/sunroof was a major PITA. Mason has taken the glass from your truck and his complete unit back to Austin to see if he can find a glass company that can swap it out. I have no idea if it can actually be done or not.

Glad you are able to get some Cruiser work done with the new business.
I know how that goes. I am so strapped for time for Cruisers and racks since buying my partner out at the powder coat business a year ago. Trying to grow that business has been great but gotta get Bowfin back on track.
All that aside, I sure would like to get back to the barn to visit. I hope all is awesome!

I hear you Pat. Would be awesome if you and Jess could make a trip south sometime soon.

@CenTXFJ60 Good luck with your new venture. Hope you get a lot of customers…BUT… hope Maureen & I aren’t one of them.😱😁😱

hi Jimmy

what's the plan or approach for all the unicorn snow-version Plates , Labels , and Grade symbols on the exterior , rear hatch in-particular ?

- VX
- big and loud and proud TURBO decal , i have never seen before , now a must have

- the nla / disc : DIESEL chrome thin and skinny horizonal badge everybody and there mother wants and not one unicorn of that still survives in the wild earth ...

- i wish wish the VX is on the grill or pillars too ? too far in the photo to tell ?

- also , do not and never assume the more common and or familiar ones such as the rear quarter panel " TOYOTA Land Cruiser " Name Plate Sub. Assy. is same as a usa spec 60 or 62 either ,

they may indeed be , but i have run across more than a few of these examples , where one of the several male stud pegs are a different pattern , and the early stud pegs use a odd azz tri-bastard-clip in a triangle pattern that is meant to bite the flesh on your finger tips and hang the freek on too ....

v/s....

a later update that incorporates a same in kind plastic chrome stud feature injection molded as part on the name plate badge , and it has a unique dimple tip that then snaps so so very nice nice into the included clea-rish soft nylon pop right in female capsule shape FLANGE head receiver port thingy's

if you PM me the engine bay data ID plate , whole image , i will find the exact first gen EPC diagrams and nomenclature and post it here too ,.....

specific to ONLY this 61 ....:):wrench::wrench::wrench:

Did you tack the a-piller gutter back in or attach it another way? it was a pain when i did it and i feel like i may need to retouch it up.

I hit it in where the original tack welds were. I did learn a valuable lesson using the 4.5” grinder…I burned through the lip where the gutter does a 90 degree bend. About 6” of it separated. That was a mess tacking it back on as I kept burning though (used 23g wire turned way down). That section was ugly but a little body filler made it look better

Self leveling seam sealer is down. Got very lucky…the second tube pack had issues. One side would not dispense and we got about 6-8” down the gutter before we realized this. Removed the cartridge and found a jam in the tip due to material being dried (sorta like a huge booger). Mason used a pick and removed it, cleared the tip, wiped the unmixed sealer out of the gutter and then resumed. Besides the way it looks in that section it’s effective. Also have more than the expected level of air bubbles. Some big enough that it left pin holes all the way through. Plans are to fill them with the “heavy bodied” sealer. Not sure of the brand but it’s not 3-m or any popular name. Was what my paint supplier stocks. Definitely will buy a name brand next time.

Jimmy did his truck have the original windshield in it? Was it a PITA to remove?
Hey Jack, it was a Toyota windshield but definitely not the original glass. Was too clean for the miles and had zero glue so it came out fairly easy. Unfortunately had a small crack that took on a mind of its own when we pulled it.
