Oh no Felicity...that’s not the intention at all. I think Ryan’s goal with this thread was to document the fun cruiser activities of us enthusiasts in the surrounding area. And I can confirm his estimated count is way off. There are a few project bodies etc but there’s a handful of cruisers here that belong to other folks. And I agree on the lucky part. I was very fortunate to meet and spend a good part of the day yesterday with the family that grew up with this truck. Donald served in the Marines and now is on the police force in Amarillo. Actually his mother who bought the cruiser in 85 is only a few years older than me (I’m getting old!!!). Our agreement is simple...this truck goes back (right of first refusal) to him and his wife if it ever gets offered for new ownership. So that was his ask and my commitment to him is all he has to do is ask, and it goes back to him and his family. I always say “better lucky than good”. And I was very fortunate this weekend :).

I'm glad I could "wreck" your weekend plans with just a few texts @CenTXFJ60 ;) I'm really glad it turned out to be such a great find and experience! They sound like really awesome people. That photo on their shed wall... are those cruisers all theirs? Or is that just a Toyota promo poster or something? What are your plans with this one? Sounds like a rebuild/restore?

It’s not a bad thing to be a mud or Toyota celeb Jim. Speaking for everyone, we adore all that you do and definitely if I had the ability I’d be at the Barn along w/ everyone else!

That's a photo @POTATO LAUNCHER took on Engineer Pass (IIRC) at either the first or second Solid Axle Summit in Ouray, CO. The shop is at his place in Amarillo.

Ha...I appreciate that Felicity. You're welcome down here anytime. In fact, Casey and I were talking about you yesterday and the exact words were, "wish we could get Felicity to come to SAS or one of the events in our area. Would be great to meet her in person"...

Looked through my Lightroom folders and found this:

Engineer-Pass-8.11.2017.jpg

Sure enough - Engineer Pass 8.11.2017 SAS #1. That's my '76 FJ40 4th from the right. @POTATO LAUNCHER's '73 FJ40 is 8th from the right and his '84 FJ60 is 7th from the right.

Correct time and place John, SAS #1 near the summit of Engineer Pass. Doug @Dirtydawg used that photo to do promotional work. They blew it up to 4'X8' to show off the printers capability. I was fortunate enough to get it so I built a frame and put it on the barn wall.

In all fairness the guy that disassembled it kept almost all of the hardware bagged and labeled. That made a huge difference in putting it together.

That made a huge difference - mostly textbook disassembly. That was Sam's (@DirtySteve) first Cruiser pick. He enjoyed it and hopefully learned a lot. Sure made a good hand! As for Jimmy, he needs a Cruiser-pickin' cape... unbelieveable find.

The photo/print is sharp enough and has enough detail to reveal that Casey and I both need shaves. Very cool print.

Dave, you did not wreck my weekend. Maybe for others in the family :) (kidding). I truly appreciate your alerting me to this opportunity. This is another example validating what a great network of cruiser folks we have. I’m lucky to be part of this group. Lastly, you need to stop by the barn some time soon. You’ve been too quite on the cruiser front!!!

well I can tell you I’m a lucky SOB to have such a great family and absolutely wonderful friends. Like the previous example where Dave turned me on the the white 60. Just the other day I had another good friend turn me on to a great deal that popped up on Craig’s list the other day. I have not picked it up yet but all my dealings with the owner seem to net out another great individual. Really look forward to meeting him. And this truck was running and driving when he parked it 8 years ago. Hell. In short order I may be able to baseline it, add shoes and then actually have a 40 I can drive around :). Here are some shots of it. I’m by no means a 40 expert, so looking forward to learning the story on this one. As with past cruisers, I name them by the city/town I found them in. This one will be “Caldwell”. And I’m hopeful its a 451 color code (I believe that’s beige). I need to add that my friend who called me on this really wants a 40, but he’s not in a position to buy one at this time. I generally don’t buy to resell etc. but he knows that if he gets a little change in his pocket then this truck is his he’s a non member, but a lifelong cruiser addict :)

Looks perfect for a @wngrog style Patina-driver

I really enjoy reading about the barn. And everyone that comes by for work, advice,or even just to bs.
This reminds me of a place we gathered when I was younger. And who/what got me into Landcruisers. we called it “The Garage”.
Just like your place people would come wrench on there trucks, get tips on how to do something, drink beer, raze one another
or just tell stories.
Pictures on the wall of cruisers crawling over rocks or just being out at a lake fishing. Never the less it was a cool place. The guy who started has since passed and like everything else the going to “The Garage” simply faded away in time.
I wish there was a place like this or I had a place to start this. But most of the cruiser owners here are to into themselves and or have no interest to do this.
Thanks for sharing. I may one day just take a drive to see and meet you guys at the barn and bring back them wonderful time. Till then I will keep reading your post.
Thanks

You can Jeff seem to always score the good stuff.

Man you just nailed it. It’s like a phrase I once heard...”I don’t work on the Cruisers, they work on me”
And I truly appreciate how fortunate we are to have a place and such good folks to hang out with. You are welcome anytime!!! Good reason to plan a trip to TX :)
