Seriously. Even the slightest wheel dip will pull the whole weight of the truck down with it. IMO, more flex isn't about looking cool while posing. It almost becomes a safety issue when doing extreme wheeling. Not to mention it's the reason why the 80 isn't capable of doing certain trails without lots of body damage.

^this, freeing up the front end makes a huge difference in how the 80 wheels. it also leads to the body looking like this....

Flex looks cool in pictures but is way overrated in the real world and with a locked truck IMO.

 Sounds like a recipe for flopping your truck. I guess it just depends on how hard you wheel.

It's all about predictability and ability. You will break something or roll long before a much more capable truck will. But... It's about how it has been set up. And if its been set up correctly.

Wrong. If you get in the rocks it can be a lifesaver. My old 1973 FJ40 (sold) had a SOA with longer shocks and the thing would flex over anything. It just kept going and going as it always had traction. That is the key, to keep the rubber to the road while leaving the cab level.

I will say though, the 80 fits my family needs much better these days. :) but I have some good memories!

this is how I would phrase it
It's all about . . . driver ability. You will break something or roll long before a much more capable driver will.

seat time, seat time, seat time - you don't get that skill from reading the interwebs

and I don't have enough of it in an 80 yet, either

Seat time is only good until you find the limitations of your rig. Then its time to upgrade your suspension/set up or sell it. It's a whole new world after you have spent the time and $$ on your set up.

no flex :flipoff2:

Depends on where you wheel, without flex in certain situations you tip and teeter totter, been there with the stock radius arms, it was scary as ****, it feels way more stable now

Agreed. This is why I also linked my front-end. Teetering around on a rutted down-slope was not my idea of a good time. I like my tires touching the ground.

And Much of the time the tires may be touching the ground but they don't have much weight on them. Some of you guys do it right and really tune the spring rates and dampening but many just go for the flex which can actually get a lot less stable when not done right. The guys who did it right know who they are and the poseurs won't get it. It's just my opinion guys, this isn't my first truck.

That 4/16/11 pic from Rausch? Pretty sure I've done that trail.
