The taller the lift, the tippier the truck, makes for fun feeling when off camber, going downhill. The lower the center of gravity, the less likely you'll flop on your side. To a point, of course.

I'm a fan of running the lowest lift possible for the tire size desired. About 2.5" lift is the break point for small dollar lift and a LOT more dollars.

Even with 315 tires you can fit them at stock ride height* so your 285s will be fine. If you're hanging up the spare, put it inside. If you don't have sliders, make them your next purchase. Relocate the exhaust pipe if you have a 95-97 with the inline catalytic converters. Consider doing a cut n turn of the cats while you're modifying the exhaust.

After all that, and getting stuck, consider a winch. Once you've played a whole bunch, the suspension lift is the next thing on the list. Be aware that quality dampers go a LONG way towards good ride, good road manners, and less white-knuckling when you drop a tire into a big hole and teeter the truck.

*315s will fit at stock height with some rubbing, if you're lightly laden. No dice if you run heavy loads, and need the speed to get over stuff at the dunes or the mall.

Thanks...sliders it is then. How much lower will they hang compared to rear sway bars, exhaust, etc?? Obviously the benefit outweighs the loss of clearance, but how much is lost??

I recently installed all new exhaust....I should have done my research and had it modified then.

i love yoga pants.

On the right person they are fine but the old adage remains true, "Just because it comes in your size, doesn't mean you should wear it"!

I haven't looked too hard, but I haven't seen much regarding sway bar disconnect (maybe I missed them). I'm thinking about "making" a set for mine.

Sliders pretty much replace the stock running boards with something that will protect the rocker panels. Multiple options from many vendors. Some can even mimic the position and use of the running boards so that your wife n kids can still get in and out easily.

So they don't actually hang down at all.

Only way to increase clearance under your diffs and rear swaybar is by increasing your tire size.

If you get enough "flex" out of the front, the sway bar will hit the driveshaft.

There's no means to stow the rear arms to keep them out of harms way on the rear.

I sleeved and bent my rear lowers - they are out of the way now... whats so hard about that? :meh:

White is the secret to flex with an 80, its just comes naturally:flipoff2:

Speaking of flex, anybody know the details of this 80? Never seen it before. This thing can flex nasty!

Hmmmm. With no reverse lights I figured the video was reversed. People at the end aren't walking backwards though.

Nah it's not reversed. Here's another version going forward

Okay, an old pic. At the time, OME-L shocks and the "hitch-pin" mod.

Those that have done, (or did at one time) the "hitch pin mod", did you flare out the bottom of the bracket to help guide the arm back into place? Is that even an issue?

Speaking of the hitch pin mod, how dangerous is this on a steep descent? That's the only reason I haven't tried it. When we go wheeling it's not just climbing over rocks, it's a little bit of everything and I don't want to worry about the missing bolt every time I drive downhill...
