Check your tire air pressure if you haven't already (didn't see anyone mention it). When I first mounted my 35's The shop had way too much air and the ride was sketchy ( as you described). Dropped it down to 33 psi and it was primo.
Thanks

What was your psi originally? Was it legitimately overinflated, or just too high for your liking?

The ride is definitely firmer, but I prefer that, and the on-road handling seems to be better too. The only negative is that when tracking in a straight line, the front end is noticeably twitchier, but that may be due to the fact that right before i got the tires put on, I cranked the torsion bars up 4 turns on each side too. I will be getting an alignment Friday, so hopefully that will help with the twitchiness in the front end. Haven't had a chance to use it off-road yet, unless you consider moping along the outside rows of the vineyard off-road (I don't).

Would love to see pics.

Im no mechanic but Im 99% sure the twitch you are experiencing has little to do with the new tire set up and everything to do with the torsion bar crank and lack of alignment. Then again Im a novice and air pressure may be a contributing factor.

Im in a similar situation and would be interested in how you remedy the twitch. Good luck with correction and report back when you get the chance.

The toe was thrown off on mine when I cranked the t-bars. Made it feel twitchy at higher speed. Alignment sorted it all out

Alignment is getting done bright and early tomorrow, I'll report back with results.

good catch - too high for my liking - was 40 psi (sketchy) and I dropped it to 33 psi - (smooth)
thanks

Kind of off-topic at this point, but I took it in for alignment, found out the front wheel bearings need to be repacked...they wouldn't even touch it because the mechanic said it would be pointless to align because the worn bearings would just cause it to toe out again. Ugh.

You can repack them yourself in just few hours.

275/70/18 just put this size on. This is probably the biggest in 18 rims u can put On without any rubbing at all.
I just posted up 5 275/70/18 DuraTracs that are basically new for sale on Mud. Off of my 200. May keep for my wife's LX if they don't sell but a good deal for someone.

Going from OEM LTX's to 285/75/16 BFG KO2's, I really do think the OP and others who maintain this is the largest size (on 16's) that will fit without risk of issues.

Both MPG and ride quality do go down when changing from OEM to 285/75/16's. And while it does look great, if I did not live in an area where I can actually take my LX off tarmac, I would not have done it.

@Junglejack How much mpg hit did you observe? Can you be more specific on ride quality? Noise? Humming on the highway? Handling of the car? We had a sequoia with LTX MS2, and really like how quite and smooth it was, so I am leaning toward that tire. We never need to have an AT tire since we do very little offroad, but I wanted to do more with the LC, and maybe participate in HIH next year, which I think may require more aggressive tire like KO2.

Size wise, I been going back and forth between 275/70 R16 (stock) or 285/75R16 or 265/75 R16. Ideally I like to have have 285/75 KO2, but I am not sure how the ride quality compare to LTX MS2. Also have to consider the drop of mpg - the vehicle is my wife daily drive. 285/75 tire seems to be about 12-15 lbs heavier than stock.

Michelin LTX AT2 seems to be a good compromise between on and off road. Lots to consider for sure.

Appreciate any feedbacks.
Chris

Chris,
I would say I am down to about 12 MPG, but since starting to use Marathon's 100% "Plus", I think I am now at about 14 with a noticeable uptick in drivability.

The LTX's were definitely a touch quieter, but I do not find the KO2's noisy per se. With your wife being the primary driver, the MS2's might be way to go.

As today I just ordered a Pioneer AVIC-7100NEX Apple CarPlay/Nav/DVD H/U along with getting ready to gut the 16 year old Nakamichi system with a JL Audio 500/1, 12W7 ProWedge, JL 300/4 4 Channel Amplifier and 2 sets of either Focal 6.5 Components or JL Components, I am guessing road noise will soon be a non issue.

Something I'm curious about but haven't seen discussed after reading through this thread is how wide the stance becomes on an upgrade from stock tires to something like a 295/75/16. Specifically, I'm curious about how close the tires are from flush with the fenders. I did see Keowee's pictures in post #44, and they look like they might be tucked into the fender about an inch or so, based on the 2nd pic.

I'd love to get a close to flush as I can. I'm running stock suspension, fenders, and wheels (16's). I wouldn't want to run spacers.

Thanks

285/75/16

285/65/18

I put this in another thread, but maybe it is more relevant here....

I've searched around quite a bit and haven't seen a specific answer to the following question:

Is there any reason to worry about re-gearing with 285/75/16 tires? Does that tire size require any other adjustments? Does it place any extra stress on anything?

Someone else in another thread linked to a site that shows a 5.37% change in speedometer/Gearing with that tire size, but I don't know if that's significant enough to cause any issues.

I think you got your answer in the other thread, so you should be good to go. :)

Yes, asked and answered, thanks!

Do you have a pic and are you still happy with that size? I was thinking of the 275/65/R18 BFG KO2.
