I assume the welded nut lines up with the hole in the foot of the jump seats....but that's just a guess. No idea what the other holes are for....
Can someone post a pic of these installed under the rear wheel wells?

I took it out for a spin for the first time after spending a couple months putting an Aqualu tub on it!

Too much work to mention!

I think the holes are not needed. I just drilled them to look OEM.

I let it work this week

Took the top off for the first time since I got it a couple of years ago...

(it's dark out, hence the garage pic)

I had a 350 in another fj40 with a turbo 400 and thought it was too much for the truck -- always braking and never really settled into a comfortable drive. I really liked the 283 and would recommend it for someone wanting a V8. That said, there is a certain mis-match of parts (V8/SM420/3spd) feel about the truck that started me thinking about going back to a more stock configuration. I think the 2f/4spd/split case will be a fun drive.
Changing the gear sets in the 3rd member may be too much and I hope I don't regret that decision. But in the end, I got a real good deal on the parts and couldn't resist. Will let you know how it works out.

As I am one of the few others running a 283 (not a 350) - what made you decide to go back? I've been tossing the idea around too, but it seems like an awful lot of work!

I'd get it roadworthy with the 4.11s, drive it for a bit, swap in the rear 3.70, and decide how you like the setup compared to the 4.11s. That way, you'll know if you want 3.70s or not... The down side is, that you might end up not having a chance to finish the front swap, and you won't be able to drive in 4WD... Don't ask me how I know.

I like 3.70s with a SBC and a Toyota 4 speed, but most people are pulling the 3.70 in favor of 4.11s.

Since I am not making any progress getting her started this weekend, I took the opportunity to tie up a few paperwork ends.

Truck registered as collector with original 1970 plates. Considering this will be an original rad-rod resto, a retro banged up plate completes the authenticity nicely:-)

Made my own $12 floor mats. Went to Home Deport and purchased a 2'x5' roll of black indoor/outdoor carpet runner. Made some paper patterns and test fit them, then made some rubber (from rubber roofing I had) patterns and test fit those. Once those fit the way I wanted them, I then reversed those on the back of the indoor/out door carpet runner, and cut the pattern out. Now when I need new floor mats or just to change them, I have the pattern. Here are some photos of my process.

Lets see...finished up most of the wiring, passenger seat is in, fuel tank is in, headlights are in, the last few pieces left to paint are stripped and ready for primer. Windshield will be installed this week, front end should be finished in the next couple of days. My goal is to have it to the exhaust shop early next week...and possible...hopefully...I'll be driving it home! kyle-landcruiser.blogspot.com

Got my console back from the powder coater, still waiting on my armrest pad but it fits nice.
