I actually took mine off pavement for the first time since rebuilding the engine last summer. And when I got back I discovered my driver's side knuckle is leaking pretty bad. So it's finally time to tear down the front end.
I read some wise words on this thread, " Life is short, drive your cruiser everyday ". So, in order to enjoy my cruiser everyday, I pulled out the rad for some repair. I photographed before and after but my camera is lame. Pics soon.
i started grinding off the two different colors of paint and rust bubbles on the completely disassembled hardtop and slowly priming and painting them before reassembly.
I hate bondo and will likely have to get all new hard top rubber.
I have to wait until next week to drive it! 14-15 months on my resto and all I want to do is go for a drive.
I got it tagged, bought new tires and took it to three exhaust shops for custom duals on my SBC... First one wanted me to run-down parts to fit it to the old ram-horns I have... (like I know what I'm looking for... they run the exhaust shop shouldn't they be able to find them?) The second shop said they'd see me Friday and they open at 9:00. I sat in the parking lot for 1 1/2 hours and nobody showed up for work. Hopefully their work ethic isn't the same as the exhaust job they would have done for me.
So I pulled up the yellow pages and visited the third shop. They ordered what I needed (had to come from out of state) so I guess I'll get the satisfaction of the first drive next week. The anticipation is killing me. I loaded in on and off the trailer in the driveway so I guess that's all I get for now. Boy was it sweet.
Did a re-route, re-do of a jerry rigged fuel line system to include better filtration, primer, more proper fuel line layout including using hard lines. Also installed a later model fuel pump with fuel return. I used straight brake lines for the hardlines.
Today I spent 6 hours doing the trunnion bearings on the passenger side. Now that I know what I am doing, the drivers side should take about 3 hours tomorrow.
Replaced the aftermarket mirrors with stock mounts. Took out the Chevy buckets and replaced with stock seats. Mounted the dash pad. Relocated the radio. I have a lot of catching up to do, I just got the FJ back after a 10.5 week 2F rebuild.
I made a mess of my engine compartment when I changed out the oil filter element for the first time. Now I get to smell burning oil for a day or two when I drive around.
