Rebuilt and installed front heater (thanks Shane) and hoses. Fixed rear heater and replaced hoses. Re-wired electric fan.....Again!

removed the transmission, transfercase and clutch......installed the rebuilt transfercase (with speedy sleeve as well as all new e break components) and gone thru transmission (nothing wrong with it) and rebuilt the clutch (flywheel, disc and pressure plate as well as pivot point).....replaced the slave cylinder and master cylinder as well as the rubber hose to te clutch master cylinder with now stainless braided......all along I pressure wash all parts....sandblast prime then paint for a new feel. I also replaced all four u joints and had both driveshafts professionally balanced.

Just got most of it back together tonight......tomorrow is another day and I am lookign for seat bolts and body plugs now....those should be a real challange to find!

It was a nice hot sunny day today.

I took the doors off - for repairs of course ;-)

Then I folded the windscreen and haven't seemed to have gotten around to putting it back up yet. Might do it tomorrow... maybe.

This is the first time the Gecko has been titts-out since I've had it.

New springs and greaseable shackles & pins on the rear (waiting to install the same on the front until I get a winch and bumper).

Installed an OEM fuel pump and disconnected the electric. Left all the bits there though so if the OEM fails on the trail I just need to re-do the plumbing, flip the switch on the dash and will have fuel again.

Also installed a trailer harness for towing, and fixed the oil pressure gauge in the dash.

Installed relay to by-pass the ballast resistor during cranking. I lost that feature when I went to a gear reduction starter. Awesome starts!

I like the paint Droopz.

Is that ADF camo green?

As for windows for your top, cut out the holes, and if you can get some lexan for windows, you can screw them in using wood or aluminium bar on both sides of the vinyl. Of course, then it'd be a semi-rigid top rather than a soft top...

Nice rig.

Yeha mate the colour is as close as I could ge to AFD Olive Drab locally. Its a PPG two pack with a crap load of flattener added.

Followed up a few leads around town and found myself a hardtop laying out in the long grass outside of town.

Gave it a (very) quick once over and threw it on. Its a bit too rough to bother fixing up or wasting too much paint on, but it was free and will do fine for this wet season.

100% better than the soft top.

I really like your ammo can tool boxes over the fender wells; I'd like to do something similar on mine. Looking for some U.S. or NATO cans, I will have to look for 20mm specifically and see what they measure out to. Thanks for the pictures of your nice Cruiser.

Droopz,

You lucky bastard - I've been looking for a hard top for the Gecko for ages and you find one laying the grass outside town? Gotta love the Northern Territory.

If you ever decide to respray and want the proper ADF camo green, visit these guys: http://www.protec.com.au/www/455/10...box=true&searchstring=camouflage&selecttype=1 They are the current suppliers to the ADF, so you can get paint in 4 litre cans or rattle cans straight off the shelf. They do have an outlet in Winnellie, which may be convenient depending on where in the NT you're located. I'm planning on respraying the Gecko in ADF Camouflage Brown - I like the Icon 4x4 look.

Thanks 1911, they are pretty easy to fit, just 3 x bolts in each one holding em on the wells. They do stick out over the wells by maybe 4 or 5 inches.

The one on the right holds tools and recovery gear and the left one contains coolant, oils and additives. The left one also has a fire extinguisher bolted to the top of the lid. I'm thinking of bolting a small-ish vise to the inside of the right hand ones lid. Better to have it and not need it... :D

I understand that 20mm cans are becoming a little harder to find, but with the wide proliferation of the MK19 grenade launcher in the MEAO, you'll find 40mm (grenade launcher) cans pretty easily in the US. They are the same dimensions as the 20mm cans and should be pretty cheap.

I've been looking to replace the 20mm cans with a bunch of the the high impact ribbed black plastic 25mm ammo cans. These are used for the ammo for the Apache helo (I think), the US Army Bradley AFV and the USMC LAV-25 series armoured vehicles. These are around US$20 in CONUS. Any US Army helo or USMC AFV techs on the forums who might be able to advise the dimensions?

Interesting bit of trivia about the legalities of driving a shorty 40 doors-off in NSW, Australia...
I was pulled over for a random breath test by the local highway patrol this morning. Windscreen was back up, but the doors were still off. The copper didn't even mention it. I like running it doors off - lots of visibility - just gotta mount some speakers somewhere unobtrusive. I've got some little tweeter speakers on the dash, but they don't sound very good by themselves lol

Xmas came early UK registration has come in at last! Finally Ugly Betty is legal to drive here.

Covered her up with tarps to protect from the snowy weather we have been having in the UK!

Congrats! now get back to work on her. I miss the the updates.

Well, got my rig back and have started putting her back together a little at the time. Need to get better shots, but this is one in my carport. My dissy and crab were sent to Jim C. for ye old overhaul and recurve, so oh-so-spectacular articulated high end cruiser photos are zero until I get those goodies back.
