My wife and I are spending a few days in the Davis Mountains stargazing. Saw this '78 (I think) while having lunch in Marfa.

When I rewired, I didn’t bother with the heater other than the make sure the wires were there. Now that East TN is consistently cold, I thought I’d figure out how to get it working.

The previous owner had a shop install the heater, which is from a later 40 (77+?), which fits in the ‘67 with a few extra holes in the firewall and moving the switch panel.

Both high and low on the blower still blow, so I wired everything up. I haven’t gotten it up to temp yet, but 🤞. Now to find (or make) some oval couplings for the later defroster holes and hook up the defroster ducts.

Then I did something I never thought I’d do. On a whim, I ordered a Bluetooth amp, and tested it with the 3” speakers a previous owner screwed into the lower doors.

I’m going to print a knob for it to match, and I think if I rearrange my wiper and/ or light knobs I can fit it in the dash and nobody will know. There’s almost no chance I’ll be able to hear it while driving right now (average noise level is over 90db while driving).

It’s all a nice distraction from the things I need to do (like replace my leaky (new) master cylinder and rebuild my center arm).

Used Evaporust for the first time on the fuel sending unit from my ‘79 fj40. Here are the results and with just a touch of PB blaster the lever is free and loose. Also refinished the access cover. Looked in the tank and it was toast. New replica tank from Cruiser Corp on the way. Also new oem fuel pump and oem sending unit with accessories in transit from City Racer. Both venders had the order shipped out the same day I ordered.

My 79 looked the same. I ordered a new one as I didn't think I could refurbish it like you did. Nice work...

I brought Mr Bell home from the corner of my shop to hit the garage for final finishing up on dark winter Saturday nights. Before the salt garbage gets put all over the roads.

Chiming in on the Weber…My FJ40 had a Weber on it when I bought it also. It ran well, in fact it ran so well that I had purchased a Holley Sniper EFI system 16 months earlier and never had the desire to install it. Then something hit me and motivated me to give it a try. The Holley system proved to be fantastic.

During the installation process however, I thought my DUI distributor was well timed from the previous owner and it was not. I believe that HAD I timed the distributor BEFORE installing the sniper, it would have made the Weber run even better than it had. Overall it always seems a little bit sluggish but again, it still ran quite well.

I would watch the numerous tutorials on using a good timing light and insure your numbers are correct. It’s actually quite easy to do.
Weber is an excellent carb if you are willing to tune it. Biggest improvement for me was the HEI dizzy. Now I'm about to do my first valve adjustment since I am not happy with the timing. RIP Weber Sarge! Since I travel a LOT, I am always setting up my jets for altitude. This has helped me understand the carb better over time.
