Restored and powder coated (had to also make the booth) a late model carb cooling fan 16360-61023 and retrofitted it into a 1976 40. Created a small upper bracket to catch the two #4 M6 bolts. Used neoprene 3/4x3/4T to close gap between fan and vent. It works very well. Also, made my own snap switch and sub harness to connect to the carb fan relay 85927-60010. It is recommended to use the OEM lower bracket to properly orient the fan. The video shows how it all came together. Regardless of the debate on the usefulness of this fan, I really enjoyed this little marvel of Toyota engineering.

Thought I would also show the powder coating booth. Using steel shelving with casters added, I created a box using I/4” MDF primed and then clear coated for easy clean up. Then installed fan with filter. It’s simple to pull out to use and then put away.

Been back on the road about a year and half now and finally found some time to install a radio so I get to cruise again with tunes, still have to pinch myself now and then I get to ride in this thing again. Back then Green Day’s Dookie got tons of play time in the tape deck, Whitey Morgan is the jam these days. I remember driving back from Tahoe and tons of dead came on the air and my buddy Doolittle woke up in the back seat and said did Jerry Die? We were bummed.

It’s a cheap blue tooth deal from Amazon, pioneer 5” in the doors (with spacers) and a marine antenna. Sounds good.

Also replaced the radiator (napa) it finally sprung a leak after 45 years.

It’s amazing how adding tunes makes our time machines more real. My 40 tape deck played a lot of bootlegs back in the early 90’s in Colorado at school. Where did you source the marine antenna? I need to get the radio to play.

Finally got started installing the in-tank fuel pump for the upcoming Holley Sniper install. I figured the new tank was a better idea since the old one is 49 years this May. Surprise to me but when I removed the fuel tank cover under the passengers seat, there is a brand new poly tank below. I’m still going to use the new metal tank.

I had been smelling a faint hint of gasoline in the cab so it re-enforced my thinking that the old tank might have been leaking. Turns out one of these vent lines had broken off and that is the cause of the fuel smell.

My wish was to send this tank off to Jesse @Jdc1 at Rubber City Land Cruisers and while I was installing the Sniper, he could have the in-tank pump cut in and finished. My endurance limits have changed and that was a great opportunity for convenience with my damn knee but the round trip shipping could get me to Disney World and back, so here we are.

Is there a name for this polyethylene maze attached to the vent lines?

I think its part of the charcoal vapor capture system, a vacuum valve that lets the carb clear the canister. I think you could thread in a short section of brass tubing to make a liner, so the broke stub could be attached better than just glue alone. There is a special hdpe glue, not sure how gas proof it is but the tube liner should protect it.

@charliemeyer007 good idea. Thanks for that. I actually have a few threaded brass hose barb fittings I found while sorting thru some cans of nuts and bolts. I’ll tap and thread one in with some pipe tape.

I took the winch off and installed a small 4-rod carrier to the bumper. I’m pretty sure the little B engine is happy with the change cause it’s now hauling less weight and the radiator is getting better air flow.

It was 77 degrees today and it actually felt a bit hot in the sun but I did get the in-tank fuel pump installed and aligned ready to go. It was much easier than I thought and only took about an hour and a half. Sniper stuff getting laid out on the bench for install this week (I hope)

I measure the depth of the tank at 9 1/2” so cut the send and return lines to fit exactly on the reserve bottom of the fuel tank. The heat gun softens the tubing to get it all fit very snug and then clamped. The vacuum helped to minimize debris in the tank afterwards

A bit of routine maintenance: Changed air and fuel filters. Also, the vent window latch plates had been painted over. So, scraped off the paint and polished them a bit. And added a pair of heater hose hangers to side cover courtesy of @65swb45.

I pull my not working fuel sender unit and found it rusted in one place. I just ordered and oem new one from city racer.

So in looking at this fuel separator evaporator 77193-60011, isn’t it essentially a big T?
Could you not make it from 3 brass T’s and some fuel rated tubing? OR… does the shape of the tubes create some kind of volumetric change in pressures and it really does have a physical effect on things?

AND…. With the specific mounting holes, does this actually fit somewhere? Mine was just laying under the tank fill hose interior cover

Mine is located on the back of the split top passenger bench seat. I have never looked under the cover plate, I just unhook the 3 hoses and pull the passenger bench seat to get to the tank.

@Chungas Revenge and others . I am adding a Autometer series Z tachometer to the dash along with Kraig’s (Teqtach) dash panel and the Holley Sniper EFI.. I just found out from Autometer.

I agree you could certainly make one out of tees. I think it just works as a vapor to liquid separator returning the vapor, probably the upper right hand to the charcoal can, liquid might go back to carb then the supply hose that feeds the system. If it were me, I would scuff sand those two parts, clean it with solvent and two part weld bond glue that back together.

Finally got around to fabricating my parking brake lever mount for my 81 rear axle. A couple of hours of playing around, if I did this for a living I would be in the poor house. It does work so I will be disconnecting the original dash mount parking brake eventually.
