Before, my fan shroud looked only like metal because of its shape. It wasn't really rusted, just caked with a really hard to clean mineral film?

0000 - grade steel wool and wax. It tones down the bling on the new waterpump and radiator by having something shiny next to it. I failed getting a good seal with the wire-band-clamps on the upper hose. The hoses are dated original to the year, but it needed to be squeezed over a broader area after a few decades of probably being overtightened had dug grooves into the rubber.

So, there was a natural patina in there, you just need to bring out the highlights on the surface, and restore a bit of smooth texture. It is kinda fun to get beads of water to stand up tall and straight on old original parts - they have to have a kind of micro-smoothness. The original center console and '75 40 rear heater top were done in the same way, as well, and they look and feel gooood.

Rear main seal replaced, bellhousing, flywheel and clutch installed. Transmission hump restored and waiting for paint. Next step, marry the H42 to Transfercase then bolt it on.

I made a couple of threaded studs (special shadetree service tool) so that you can thread that into the bellhousing and guide the gear boxes in place like the studs on a cylinder head. Then replace the studs with the real Toyota screws, after the input shaft on the transmission is in the pilot bearing. You will avoid cross-threading or buggering up threads by them being forced around by the mass of the gear boxes as you guide the transmission in place.
