I sent Reliable Plating about a dozen items to get zinc dichromate plated including the fan shroud.
Some other places I contacted couldn't do an item that big.
Everything came out great and their price quote was one of the lowest.

Thanks for the tip.
Where is the Reliable Plating you used located? Google search finds a couple business by that name. Thanks

CrazyGreek made me a custom knob to control the lights on my roof rack. It’s a great match to the choke/hazard and wiper knobs. The switch behind it is an OEM, non-US market 4 posirion wiper switch. Now it’s positions are as follows;
OFF
Rear Lights
Front Lights
Both Front & Rear.

This is my first dash pad removal, and it’s not going well. Any advice from the experienced among us? Thanks.

If your re painting the dash/tub just slide a hacksaw blade between the pad and the dash & cut the screws. Once the pad is off you can deal with the remains of the screws in the dash.

Another thought is to try to drill the screws with a small bit, possibly using a screw extractor or reverse drill bit. Patience is your friend here. If you find yourself getting frustrated (more than 1 curse word/second) walk away and come back later. Good luck.

In the middle of a few cruiser projects, t-case gasket and seal replacements, parking brake cable and speedometer cable replacements, wire harness management, auxiliary light switch install… I was tired of having to use the 1/2” wrench to remove the negative battery terminal, so I ground the nut down to 12mm. Much better.

Now I can remove the battery terminals and battery with one, 12mm wrench. Just simplifying my life.

Bought my '65 FJ40 with just one ignition key, and that was a local hardware store cut key from many years ago. After unsuccessfully trying the dealership and the three best locksmiths in town, I was losing confidence that I would ever be able to get a duplicate key made, much less find a Toyota blank.

Lots of browsing later, and some guidance from a long-time Mud member, I found ToyotaMatt and his Skunk Works Laboratory here on ih8mud. Reached out to Matt hoping that he might have a blank or two he could locate and sell me. After a few rounds of communication Matt told me I had better go buy a lottery ticket. He had found not one, but two NOS of my original ignition keys! Stamped with the correct code from my ignition cylinder, and comparing pictures, I felt confident they were right so I arranged to purchase from Toyota Matt.

Three days later (I am on the West Coast, Matt is on the East Coast), my two new old stock keys arrived complete with two key chains. The next day I was able to test both keys. 100% perfect fit, smooth as silk, started right up! I now have three keys to my FJ and two of those are originals I thought I would never find. I could not be happier.

Thank You Matt

That is awesome! Up until now I've been thinking, where can I find metric square bolts that fit the specific cavity on a standard generic battery terminal.

Make your own. Try using the metric square nuts from a 2F ignition coil bracket and/or an F or 2F engine distributor hold down clamp. Screw in a metric bolt, weld it in, and grind it flush - then call it a day.

Glad to find time to finish install of shims/shocks/shackles on the rear end but I failed miserably at ‘multitasking’ i.e. wrenching, drinking, football viewing, watching over our surgery recovering pooch!

So after game #1 of the day was done, I head out to garage, finish up, and decide to crank her up to run for a bit before starting game #2…. Only on maybe beer 3 at this point - run back in the house to check on my ‘patient’ when I had this bad feeling that I’d forgotten something really significant…. something sounds ‘different’ in the garage and I realize that my pride and joy is running……….. in gear!

It is written: “God watches out for drunks and fools” THAT was the only successful multitasking I can claim for today because I was both!

Of note: Glad I previously installed a missing e-brake (worked flawlessly) and thankfully the front wheels were chocked…..

Also thankful my wife was away in this dumb a$$ moment 🤣
Thinking I’ll just stick with drinking and football for the rest of this day!
