Today, I picked up a sweet set of 5 Toyo M-55 tires on 16” 70 series rims from OGBeno down in Sonoita Arizona.

Then tonight, I decided to do something for Halloween. I worked on my FrankenCruiser while listening to the Grateful Dead Show on the radio (KXCI).
It's not alive yet but hopefully my 40 will be joining the ranks of the undead Land Cruisers on the road soon.

Today was a big day. Bought my 73 FST twenty seven years ago.

Had a hard top on it at the time but soft top bows and door were included.

Used the soft top bows and doors on 68 a few times along with a Kayline top I bought new in 1994.

Today is probably the first time in well over thirty years (tag on the license plate when I bought expired in 1988) the soft top bows have back the cruiser they came with.

Putting this cruiser on my bucket list. Hopefully will be the one to get back on the road.

I understand these spools will hold 150’ of synthetic. ! Sourcing that length might be a challenge, but worth it.
125' of 3/8 synthetic is what I am running. Fits the spool perfectly. The 3/8 is reccomended for the synthetic. Normally they come spooled with 150' of 5/16 if I remember correctly.

From whom did you purchase the 125’ length?

So I have been considering selling my 40. There are a bunch of major updates that I want to do to it, and I feel it would be much better to sell and start again.

Anyone have any thoughts / recommendations? Would love to hear what you guys think.

You’re crazy. But, i totally understand. The project and building aspect is a big part of the fun for me. Why not just keep enjoying the fruits of your labor for a while? That thing is killer and you never get back out of them what you have into them, unless your one of those cult following BAT builders. I vote drive and enjoy and start collecting parts for the next one.

What are the big ticket items you want to do differently that makes you want to start fresh?

I would hope that I can get parts value out of it, considering the literally brand new condition and build.

I'd like to strech it about 13" so it behaves better on big climbs, finish linking the rear, and I really want to stick a new drivetrain in it.

Plus I want to redo the cage, fuel tank, rear seating, and and basically the whole thing since I know I can do it better. But such is life.

these are the 83-84 only ultra rare like rare as all get out

What is the purpose of the function in these knobs where you twist it clockwise and it prevents you pulling the knob out, while at the same time the running lights all turn on solid? I discovered it accidentally and thought I had a bad ground on the light circuit. Do all the years do this, or just the later ones? Mine’s an ‘84

How cool. Thanks for the info. Probably a milspec civilian transport if this is the case then, considering the unlikely island this vehicle came from.

You should just sell that 73 to me. I am also a 73 and I like that orange.
