Well... I gave up try trying to weld the card board...seemed like a good idea at the time...turns out card board is still best used behind rusted sheet metal with a smattering of bondo over the top when people are getting cars ready for sale... live and learn I guess...

I ended up cutting some mild steel instead... will have to find some other area on the ride to save cash....

Did you try reversing the polarity of the rod?;)

Restored some color to my lower dash pads. The flash makes it look shinier than it is. Pics are before and after (after with flash and without flash).

Pretty happy with how it turned out.

What did you use to restore it?

1. Remove panel.
2. Soak with Simple Green and wipe and let dry.
3. Heat gun between low and medium.
4.I have some vinyl restore swatches (from an old kit my dad had). After CAREFULLY heating the vinyl, apply the matching swatch against the surface. I Do so at your own risk. Err on the side of low heat. Just enough heat to remove imperfections. Hard to tell from final pics, but the imperfections from the first pic are gone. Use black leather and vinyl restore to finish up.

I've done this a number of times over the years, so have gotten a steady hand making it look good. If it didn't have some lines and imperfections to remove, I'd probably just use some black leather and vinyl restore.

recently decided its time to get the old 40 back on the road for the summer. Small list of must do items. bunch more want to do's but plan to keep this more about seat time driving then time wrenching.
started up front. service brakes led to rebuilding 2 wheel cylinders that started to weep when they started to move again. just buying the old ball and claw axle a bit more time I guess. Been threatening to swap it for a newer disk axle for over 15 years but now's not the time for that.
Then while dealing with worn spring bushings decided to pull the settled spring packs and comingle some leafs with an old rear belton 2.5" pack I had tucked away.
