Getting ready for the southern cruiser crawl. Fitting up the trail tires. (among other stuff: ebrake, tow point, fire extinguisher, etc.) Now she won’t fit on the trailer! Gotta figure something out.

Got more work done on my 60-series power steering conversion. I got the new-new-new steering box ('94 80-series box with a 60-series pitman arm) mocked up and positioned. A couple weeks ago, I adapted an early FJ55 inner steering column to work with the -40 column housing so all that was left was to connect the two.

I thought about a couple solutions, but in the end (and in an effort to keep it all Toyota) I made a trip to Pick-n-Pull and dug around in a Tundra, T100, and a couple 4Runners. After some careful deliberation, I finally opted for an intermediate shaft from a '94 4Runner. I also snatched the rag joint and the lower shaft from under the steering column from the same truck. Once I got the pieces home, I whipped up a plan...

The 4Runner intermediate shaft with rag joint was only ~16" OAL and I needed about 25" of overall length. So, I took the splined shaft from under the dash and cut it to length. I bored it out on the lathe and cut the splines off the intermediate shaft to a press fit.

Here is where I've prepped the joint for TIG welding:

Everything looks pretty good so far. I'm going to wait to weld up the joint until I've got the box mounted and the relay rod/tie rod sorted out.

Interesting... I’ve only ever seen illuminated headlight switches. What years are they from?

Got the rear doors for my 64 completed. Bolting them on tomorrow.

A couple of days for body work, prime, sand, sand, sand and paint. Left a couple minor memories in tbe metal... :)

Fitted new OEM license plate light, and powder coated license plate frame.

Well while I looked at a lot of options these stood out for price, fitment, and overall look. Never been disappointed by this brand of wheel in the past. Plus they are on closeout now. Bought 5.

i really didn't want to run headers, manly because i like the heat shield on these. I thought it would keep some heat off my steering box. the other reason would be i really don't know which to buy seems to be a whole mess of options out there. All in all a sucky rainy day and another set back.

I am using the Hooker cast manifolds and really like them. NO leaks! And they hug the block fairly well. I have no good pics at the moment, but I'll get one tonight. Set backs like this can be demoralizing, but adapt and overcome!
Cheers!

Doing some routine checking of grounds under the hood after a brief non-charging episode at O’dark-30 this morning and noticed my left front motor mount was smiling at me!
