On my stock '70 FJ40 I replaced the rear brake shoes and did a rear brake cylinder rebuild. Then cleaned and adjusted all the brakes. Stops nice and straight now. Installed Pertronix Ignitor II electronic ignition. Took it for a spin up 4 miles of snow packed road to the pavement in 0 degree weather. The ignition seems to have helped. Now to save up for fuel injection.

Mark (@65swb45) was in Vegas this weekend and wanted to join me in a Saturday of exploring (driving and hiking), so we went out to the DNWR.

So everyone knows... I didn't know Mark and certainly didn't KNOW I was hiking with a mountain goat... Or bighorn sheep... He's very adept at picking thru the scree and mapping a route out, in his mind... He also trudges uphill like he's going downhill.

Since I didn't know what to expect (and my motto is "be prepared") I carried quite a bit more than I would ordinarily carry on a day hike. That, along with Chester's water and the perpetual climbs really wore me down...

I know Mark really wanted to summit the mountain we were last on... But a cold front blew in and started spitting snow... And I was exhausted, so I begged him to carry me back to 44.

Then we drove another 28 miles to the campground, at 6600', with frozen snow on the ground. I had planned to drive on out to US93 (14 miles). But, the road east of the campground is a flash flood zone and we had already seen enough muddy spots... So, I turned around and we went back the way we came.

Anyway, I thought I took more pictures than this... But, here they are... I'm sure that's Sasquatch in the first pic!!

Danny, did you guys explore the cave between the twin peaks?:hillbilly: That's a very familiar site!

We scrambled across a quarter mile of side slope before we made our way into the draw where that cave was.

We could spot a well defined track to the base of the cave. Once we crossed the draw on our contouring course I looked back and scoped a use trail leading back to the valley floor. It allowed me a hasty retreat once the snow started falling .

Always good to have an exit strategy.

Mark... I suspect Mike has thrown a Sunday "gutter ball".

We left the cave for you Mike (@78fj40mg)... Have at it!!

Cool pics Mark and Danny-looks like a neat area to explore!

Understood Mark. But the truck isn't going anywhere soon and I intend to wait on this door limiter until the AC install is complete.

Perhaps a big-huge rubber band around the outside of the cab, that if the doors are opened too far, as in prior to smashing against something, they quickly close themselves ? :-) ~Marc

I think that's called a bungee cord!
