Nice work 74HogGuy.

Did the process straighten your rear crossmember? All bolts snug?

Be careful Nolan!!

Don't wanna mess up that new cam ;)

You know that's right! Had a few issues with the machine shop, anyway got her home and was going over her with a fine tooth comb. Front cam bearing has got a little bogger in it, not real bad but enough that its a little stiff when the cam goes all the way in. That's why I cut the hell outta my thumb. When they decked the block (.007) they didn't chamfer the head bolt holes or tape and plug the soft plug on the head. After being told twice everything is ready. I even went down my list with them, still had to make 2 trips. I can handle these issues but damn when you pay some one and give them a detailed list of what you want done, that they put on the work order. How hard is it to look at the work order. OK rant over, all in all from what I can tell everything but the cam bearing is good to go. And its not bad enough to be a issue. I talked to the guy that did the balance work, he took some time but he got it. After looking at the rotating assembly, crank had a lot of work done to it.

What's even worse Danny, is on the last trip I had already let them know I was on the way, they say ok we're waiting on you. Get there and the guy comes from the back walks right by me, and starts looking at work orders. I finally called him by his name and only then did he acknowledge my presence, I liked to have lost it. They act like their the only game in town and could care less how much time of yours they waste. Learned my lesson, I'll take it to the guy I usually take my engines to, no matter how long I have to wait. I spent over 2500.00 there that day, I know that ain't a lot to some folks and I know that's pretty cheap for all I had done. But that shouldn't matter and just to let yall know I'm not a jerk, I address most all by sir first and will bend over backwards to get a long. But I also believe in doing the best job you can do when someone is paying you, regardless of what it is.

I know how you feel, Nolen...

Dianna thinks I'm paranoid... I can't tell you how many different medical places (doctors, labs, MRIs, etc.) I've been to... Sign in, wait... Wait... Wait... Finally ask, "have you forgotten me"?

"Who are you?"... "We stapled your paperwork to someone else's"... "Hi Danny, I didn't see you come in"... I was the only person in the waiting room... And I was wearing a YELLOW shirt.

Happens all the time.

The great Leonard Cohen (Canadian Poet and singer/songwriter) said there are a series of stages that men go through, in their appeal to the opposite sex... "Irrestible, resistible, transparent, invisible, repulsive and, eventually... Cute".

I'm long past irrestible and not yet at cute... Stuck somewhere in the middle...

Is that where you are?

OEM wheels painted Rustoleum Smoke Gray, rear tub panels painted single stage color match and metal repair done on panels, aux tank filler removed........................Should have gone to the BFG AT K02 33X10.5X15 a LONG time ago! Much better drivability..............

Well today was a roller coaster ride with the landcruiser.as some of you know I have been working on my fj40 sence April.my son and installed a new transmission and transfer case. and I plan to take it to the cruising the coast event starting October 2 after setting 5 months I figured I would have. Few bugs to work out and have been and it's all been little stuff but my luck really sucks. so this morning my wife and I went for some breakfast and coffee And then for ride to lake . After we ate breakfast I was cruising along when it happened it stumbled and back fired then it kept going.then when driving away from a stop light it shut down so I pull over waited a second and then I restarted it. so now I am freaking out in my head with what could be wrong but it's running so we turn around And start to head home And my wife ask does it have gas .my gauge is broken but I know I have gas . Well we make it about 1/4 mile and it just kills we coat through a red light and slide right in to a parking spot in the just opened Friday trader Joe's .i was amazed that I had a spot waiting for me the place was packed. So I break out my Duluth Trading tool bag and start making sure my electronic stuff is tight. In my head it had to be electrical or worst because it was backfiring .then my wife asks me again what about the gas. So after checking some stuff on the carburetor I go and knock on the fuel tank and it's sounding really Hollow. I then disconnected the fuel hose at the carburetor and point it the top of the carb and had my wife turn the key to on and no fuel came out. I have a electric fuel pump.i felt like a ass I was out of gas. We called my daughter and son and they brought us a gas can:doh: .my wife And kids went I. Trader Joe's And I went and got gas. I really need to get my gauges working.

Waxed the cruiser today and for the first time I realized how beautiful the Toyota Freeborn red color was, they did an excellent job in selecting FJ40 colors!

I hate when that happens!:bang:

Not to worry man it has happened to us at least once.

Dianna and I first dated October 20, 1967 and were married on March 21, 1970... I haven't used that 'out of gas' trick since we've been married. Good to know it still works

Is it the gauge or the sender?

Or, is your whole gauge cluster inoperable?

What have I done to my Land Cruiser this week? I sat in my Procar Rally drivers side seat every day this week. Drove it work Monday thru Friday, ran errands thru the country side on Saturday and even back to my office to put in some over time today.

I pulled my roof off the storage rack and prepped it for some new Cygnus White paint....(photos to follow)

What is that small black line around the outer edge of the bezel? is it paint or a rubber gasket or what is that? Just curious.

It's a rubber bead to eliminate contact between the bezel and the body, keeps bezel from rubbing the paint off and rusting.

I like it. I think I might do the same. Also looks like a nice black accent piece.

I agree, and it also keeps water from dripping behind the bezel.

OEM is mounted with spacers. Just saying.

Finished painting the axles, springs and chassis, assembled the bits. Went to the engine shop and put the engine back in. Engine has had some repairs ie main bearings, hone and new rings. Reconditioned head, valves lapped, new valve guides - 2 new exhaust valves, fixed up the oil pump, new water pump...and a few more. When I did the springs and gave them a good greasing between the leafs I thought it would make the spring movement softer....still feels too hard and the shackle angle I still think is a bit steep - 9 degrees off the vertical. Still a bit of work to do!!

The whole cluster is out if service except for the fuel gauge.it moves but never consistent .i should have replaced the sending unit when I had it apart.but it's easy enough to pull the seat out and do it.
