I got the new brake line I had ordered for the damaged one. Only to discover it was bend differently so not the same part. Luckily though it was a 10x1.0 bubble flare and was long enough with the rubber hose out of the bracket to still fit (with a few inches of movement still). So went to bleed the brakes and.....crap its not building pressure! So go looking and discovered the rear line that runs along the rear axle has two leaks.

So a bit bummed but walking inside i saw a brake line i had bought for my tacoma. Just a unbent, straight piece from autozone. So hopes went back up and online i went. Looks like oreilys and autozone carry different lengths of line with 10x1.0 bubble flared line. So soon as traffic dies down Ill be heading there ot pick one up and try again.....and hopefully have no more leaks!

FYI this is literally just so I can test drive it around the neighborhood before tearing it down. So not to worried on lines not being 100%
 
Changed the gear oil in the 69FST at the ranch transmission's from GL5 to GL4- hoping to slow down the wear to the syncros. There was a butch of metal gunk on the drain plug magnet- ouch! (less than 5 years/ maybe 300 miles of only off road service since the last gear oil change) The rats' nest in my avatar was what I found a couple years ago when I crawled under to check the fluid levels. The war with the rats has been ongoing ever since... I also did the same to the J**p cj6 since it was not nearly as overbuilt from the factory back in '65. There was no magnet to collect metal fragments on the J**p factory drain plug by the way. Before the flamethrowing commences notice the cj6 is color coordinated to the land cuiser(Toyota #416 dune beige)- it was originally faded factory J**p green/rust but there was no way I was going to repaint it that color...

^^ My friend just got a mostly stock CJ6 in great condition. I've never seen a more rust free tub. Don't have a pic handy, but it has grotesque shiny alloy wheels. We're both looking for stock wheels for it. Your rigs are the same color as my '40. Love it.

I don't get the J**p hate. I'd love to fix up an MB or CJ2/3. Love the steel wheels and narrow wheel/tire combo on those.
 
If you recall... my last time off-road, I had fuel delivery issues and had to pull my OEM pump. While I didn't find anything wrong with it, I suspect it was plugged and cleared when I blew it out. At that time, I installed my backup OEM pump (it was on 44 when I bought her).

The other day, I modified my carb cooling fan (to fit with my snorkel) and reinstalled it.

When I started 44, the backup OEM fuel pump diaphragm developed a small 'split' and started dumping fuel through the weep hole.

I pulled the pump and went to install the pump I had pulled while off-road... that was when I found the hard line (pump to carb) olive was 'frayed' to the point that the nut would no longer couple with the 'L' output on the pump.

I found nuts and olives on ToyotaPartsDeal and they'll be here on Monday. I also bought a length of 5/16" steel, so I'll bend a new line for the pump to carb.

I also carry a Carter electric pump and a spool of fuel line, as a secondary backup... so, I've ordered a second Carter electric pump and a Carter Engine Oil Pressure Switch and a 1/8"BSP Male to 1/8" BSP female (to accommodate sharing the oil sender port with the pil pressure switch) - with 1/8" NPT female (to accommodate the oil pressure switch).

Rather than completely rework my fuel delivery system (which means moving the Pollak switching valve to the back of the truck, to allow the Carter to be shared between both tanks (e.g. it needs to be mounted near the tanks), I'm going to install one of the Carter pumps near the main tank and one near the Aux tank... both will have fuel filters upstream (between them and their tank) and both will be wired to the Oil Pressure Switch to ensure they are shut down, when the oil pressure drops below 2psi. They will pump fuel when the engine is cranked... allowing then engine to be started.

This configuration will afford me a primary (oem mechanical, shared by both tanks) pump and a secondary (electric for each tank) pump. The electric pump will come on when the DPDT switch on the dash selects the associated tank... e.g. only the electric pump will be active at a time... but, this will provide an actual tertiary pump ability.

The electric pump(s) will boost the fuel flow produced by the oem pump... which will significantly improve steep hill climbs. NOTE: I'm thinking of adding a switch to allow me to selectively run the 'selected' electric pump.

I also carry a Big Block Chevy block-off plate, in case the oem pump acts up and needs to be removed... I would need to temporarily plumb around the Pollak switch... but that would be easy to do off-road and would not be time consuming.

That's my plan... film at 11... or, when I make the installations.
 
Thought about adding an elec. pump to my parts list. I have an AC part no. What Carter no. are you using?

We were heading up to the mountains, and the engine started rattling loudly. I was looking for a spot to pull over, and it just shut off... coasting down the hill I heard the distinct sound of... fire. :( Crap. Pulled over, got the wife and dog out, then opened the hood to find that sure enough.. the carburetor was on fire and the air cleaner, wiring for engine, and distributor were all pretty well cooked. Ouch... just in time for summer. I am pretty bummed. My wife and I are going to get the engine replaced in the FJ55 next weekend, so hopefully we can have it running in a week or two and have a cruiser for summer, but it's just not going to be the same without my 40. :(

The same here I hope it's just a playfully competitive thing .if what I read about how the landcruiser came to life is true it owes it's existence to the Jeep at least that is what it was it design to function like
 
Took a ride Friday to do some errands and let my furry friend have a day on the road . Got pretty hot late in the afternoon and between the heat/humidity and noise of the 40 running 70+mph he wasn't real happy . Our final stop was at a local dive to pick up some good tavern chicken - Ripp's in Ladd , Illinois . He had some fun growling at customers that walked by too close to "his truck" in the back parking lot but behaved pretty well overall - even at Pet Smart with his first "store visit" . I don't like taking him places like that in public - too many people just want to walk up and pet him , bad idea on their part to any dog that isn't introduced properly first , especially with a GSD .



62 indicated on the speedo makes for 70-72 mph ...just a note .

Started the "adoption" paperwork for the blue Ox's new baby brother. We would plan on loving him..... but me thinks he might become an organ donor ;-) More to follow....

I'd look at fabbing... Just don't think I'd bother trying to save any of the old gutter. Ordering a new one often isn't an option or often I'd rather have the enjoyment of building it.

I lucked out in the past and pulled one off a wrecked roof... In hidsight I should've fixed that roof and ditched mine which had a sunroof.
 
Thanks! The body has some cancer but everything else seems in good order. I'm still a little torn, as I would love to restore the HJ61 and keep it on the road. Decisions.....
 
The 40 has been neglected the last couple months due to the arrival of our son, but I got to do a little body work Friday evening. Removed the fuel door so I can transfer it to the new 1/4's.

Then, last night, my wife surprised me with a 30th B-day party at my in-laws with a bunch of friends & family and a pretty awesome cake! She's definitely a keeper!

Thanks, the cake has definitely been parted out, but we kept the 40, lol.

I think it's awesome too, and it's incredibly detailed, door panels are correct, hood opens, passenger drop diffs on both axles, etc. Wife says she found it on eBay. It has a hard top that goes with it that the cake shop removed and kept for some reason, going to pick that up from them Monday.
