After the radiator install a "shake down" cruise was in order, so I spent part of the day at 8550' elevation. I left the 105º for a mild 78º with a cool breeze. The rig has never ran this cool in the past. A heat gun indicated almost 30º cooler from past readings. I'm gonna play with the carb and see if I can squeeze 13 MPG after leaning it out a little since she's running cooler.
The way up Mt. Lemon heading to Mt. Bigelow Mount Bigelow (Arizona) - Wikipedia, the free... was uneventful with the rig pulling 1800-2000 rpm in fourth gear 85% of the climb. It took about 45 minutes to climb 24 miles but found myself behind some slow pokes at times.

With the temps projections of 116º for Sunday and 109º for most of next week, its nice to know the 40 (daily driver) will run cooler.
It was nice to take a break from shop work and get out to nature.
Happy Fathers Day to you dads!

helped save a few from the salvage yard, @120mm
@toomanytoyzz it just rolled of the trailer like it was happy to be out of that field! Rolled off and stopped right where I wanted to park it, didn't fight it a bit.

Who's fender flares?

Hey mate,

Sorry but not sure. Was already done by po. I can take some pics of how it attaches if you like? They are fibreglass and pop riveted on, then I'm guessing body filler to smooth out the join onto the tub.

My only concern is the strength factor, if it bumps into a tree or something it's going to be bloody hard to fix.

Cheers

Another 40......................nice!

I had to cure a reoccurring problem today with the emissions control computer. The symptom was a very common one the 2F wouldn't idle after choke return, I checked the solenoid and the computer was not energizing it, I bypassed the connection directly to the battery and the solenoid clicked and the engine ran fine. Once again I removed the computer which lives adjacent to the fuse block, opened it up and checked all the soldered connections to the mother board and all looked good except the the multi-wire female connector on the board, I found four of the soldered wires had hairline cracks on the solder, I re-soldered all four connections re-installed the computer, with my fingers crossed, started the engine and ran great again, problem solved. Hopefully the re-soldered connections will last another thirty years.

Here are several pics of the computer.

@rkymtnflyfisher thats some good karma there saving those out of that field. I saw your pics when you found them- have wondered how it turned out...

Yeah, it took some wheeling and dealing, but we finally pulled them from a certain trip to a crusher. At least they will be able to be used, either for parts or rebuilt.

Here's to hoping at least one of those will be "rebuilt" in my shop. :)

Pics will be coming soon! I may try to start it tomorrow, see if the engine runs! I still have a lot of work to do before we head to Colorado.

Finally got the seat brackets in after a 2-month back order and getting my Procar seats installed. Now my Tuffy console won't fit due to the tomb stone tabs for the seat belts. :bang: Looks like I may have to cut them off and re-weld them in a manner where they don't stick straight out...

Say hi to Ray Castillo. He's on the Board of Supervisors down there, and a member of my Desert Advisory Council.

Exactly!!

It was 118* thru Glamis and 120* when we approached Needles, from the south, this afternoon... it's gonna get hot tomorrow...

Looking great Francisco!! Great pictures!!

Thank you sir. It was nice to get away and just relax for a change, the fact she ran great and much cooler, makes me smile.

I drove her to visit my dad yesterday morning and have a shot of Tequila with him for Fathers day. I'm the only one left in Tucson, so I snapped this to share with my brothers and sisters out of state.

All this by 0730 as the record heat was coming (116º). I also leaned out the 40 a bit in hopes of 1/2-1 more MPG.

My old man was simple and hard. He always gave me static when I bought a new vehicle and showed it off to him, but I really think he would have liked the 40.

I'll bet he was also very proud of all you've accomplished.

I suppose he was. He never really told me directly, but always had my back if I was right and tanned the hell out of it when I was wrong.
His last breath of words to me was "I love you" then passed. I miss him a lot and ten years have past since his passing, but it still feels like yesterday on special days. I have always told my son how proud of him I am and have never held in "I love you". Something I can thank my old man for I suppose. He was a great grandfather as he mellowed with time.

Sorry man, I guess I'm still thinking of pops.....Thanks for the kind words though.
