Mine is still "way-up firm and high" after 4-5 years. So much better than sagging headliner!

Thought I had a close-up photo of it, but this is the only one I could find (top is hanging from my hoist system).

I had an auto upholstery shop do mine, I just told them I wanted marine-grade carpet and picked the color (gray).

No turning back now.

Fixed all oil leaks replaced all missing grommets. And installed some cheap aftermarket mirrors. And then drove it 4000KM. To Pismo Beach California

Lookin good.

I replaced mine with round Stainless convex mirrors from P&R trucks about 20 years ago... I figured I'd replace them with flat mirrors when they broke. I've tried, I bashed them off trees for years for years, but they won't break.

Ended up chasing an electrical gremlin tonight.

The park light worked as normal, but turning the indicators on would flash the park light.....

Ended up being a warn wire inside the indicator, found out after rewireing it all.

Technically... my rebuilt power steering pump failed while daBoise (Gunner an Chester) and I were our in 44, about 50 miles off pavement. I stopped by the rebuilder, on the way home, and he asked me to drop 44 off, on my way to a Dr appt on Tues. I told him I'd rather pull the pump and drop it off... pick the rebuilt pump back up on the way home Tuesday. Stuff happens... sure glad I had my spinner knob on the steering wheel.

Regardless, it didn't put a damper on our trip... we had a great time in the Meadow Mountains Wilderness and the Delamar Mountains Wilderness... seldom got out of 2nd gear off road... surprisingly the main road between US93 and NV317, Kane Springs Road (normally a very good dirt road) was as challenging as the off road tracks. The storm about a month ago destroyed much of Kane Springs Road. There were several spots that I wouldn't have attempted without 4WD... the two graders, working every day, will be working Kane Springs for a few more months.

The drainages, in the two wildernesses dont often see water, but when they do, its generally a lot... all roads and tracks were VERY rough and all washes were VERY washed out.

We drove 100 miles off road and had no problems, except for the power steering failure... 44 performed perfectly!!

We drove 44 at 75 mph, comping home and it held 75 at 3600 rpm, except on the steepest hills... it dropped to 70 on those... I am VERY pleased with 44's rebuilt heart!!

Also, we found the only real tree in both wildernesses:

We saw some gorgeous vistas:

The PS Pump failure is just stuff... stuff happens... so I won't murder the rebuilder.

Sorry for hogging the thread here lately!! Just excited to share progress photos. :)

In person the color is a little bit darker. Looks like chocolate ice cream so my wife has named this one Willy Wonka.

Couldn't help but set the bezel up there to check out the color contrast. Once the roof and assorted badges are installed I think the overall color will lighten up a touch.

Have a great weekend everyone and thanks for the encouragement to keep going!

The shot with the dog holding the stick is terrific. What a great place to go on an afternoon trail ride.

That's Chester... He always find a good stick to carry, whether I throw it or not. It seems to calm/slow him down. He's 11 months and still full of trouble...

It's a great place, but a minimum of 120 miles round trip to get there... There are a couple of closer places that are just as desolate and beautiful... 50 miles round trip to the Desert National Wildlife Refuge and lotsa challenges, very few (if any) people. There are pics in my thread (see my signature), if you are interested.

Thanks!

if you look close you can see a 3rd dog in the pic.. lotta great inspiration in this thread. thanksView attachment 1164947

Good eye!! Neither daBoise nor I noticed that dog!! Thanks for the kind words!! These adventures are the only reason I bought 44. I've thought about taking a gold pan and a metal detector (and may eventually) but, right now it's simply too much fun exploring!!
