Thanks fellas! Just an average guy with some average skills but a love for tinkering I'd say

From one tinkerer to the next, props. I enjoy seeing things like this. It motivates me to tackle that next project.

What kind of Bender are you using?

The one where I cheat and pay someone online to do the bends so I can do the rest haha 😅

I ordered a custom length pre-bent DIY weld kit from XO Fab. 1.75" .120 DOM. They do the bends and supply the rest of material for you to come up with mounting points/supports and then all the welding. I'd love to get a bender but maybe in a future year where I've got more garage space (or hopefully an actual shop space)

Well it was a good run. (02/16/24 - 09/24/2024) Our truck was stolen from the spot you see here sometime yesterday morning. No broken glass, both key fobs in the house. We called made a police report and confirmed it was not towed or impounded. DC Tags VZA75 - If you're in the Mid-Atlantic area please keep an eye out. I think it is the only Pacific Blue in the area. Totally bummed out.

Well kids. I got the pay out offer today from insurance. Car has not been located.

Did it at all reflect fair market value?
Sorta, We are at $38k invested and they offered $29k. 1 owner - literally 100k mileage. We're submitting receipts to see if we can come a little closer to the number. I did a nationwide search for Dot1 trucks with similar miles or lower and the avg is $37k. I'll let everyone know the final number. Sad day.

You might consider hiring a professional appraiser. We use this guy. http://www.automotiveappraisals.com/

It will cost a few hundred bucks but it could be worth it.

Removed and cleaned my power steering reservoir today.
Steering started like two weeks ago feeling a bit more flimsy, loose and wiggly than usual. So checked all connections at the suspension and stuff like but looked fine and solid.
So I think it was maybe time to change the steering fluid but it wouldn’t make sense without cleaning the reservoir.
Well took me like 30min to remove the returnal line but thennit was a fast process.
Half hour with some cleaner in the ultrasonic cleaner and it looked way better. Gave it a second run and washed it then a longer time with clear water, washed it with Iso and now it is sitting on 60C in my 3D printer to dry over night.

looks „nearly“ as new

I just hope my power steering rack isn’t f***d up….
I think I will do this cleaning in like a month a second time together with a full flush of the fluid like this time.

How much km? Was replacement ever done before?

Around 340.000km right now. Got it from a friend with like 270k a few years ago.
Would guess no or maybe that time when the car got t-boned in 2016 by a semi what caused some broken suspension parts in the front…

Ok, maybe there is some upside to this. When I at 33k mile or around 50k km flushed the factory power steering fluid from Toyota factory to redline ATF4, which is red coloured synthetic ATF oil, I am left with the dark “sheen” you pretty much showed on the little reservoir. In other words, it seems the factory fluid has some additive in there which sticks to the wall. Obviously in my case at low mileage everything else was perfectly fine, so I have some hope for you this is false alarm. I.e. the film you see is nothing out of order and the rest is still in good working shape. Fingers crossed. Keep us posted on any learnings.

I changed my power steering fluid a few months ago. Didn't bother cleaning the reservoir. Didn't see the point if I'm not changing/cleaning all the lines and the rack itself.

The fact that your steering started feeling lose all of the sudden makes me wonder if its something other than the fluid which would degrade over time not all at once. Keep us updated.

got a trip to Mt. San Jacinto next week and even though the G056 H/T's have handled everything I've thrown at them shockingly well, i need to upgrade to some actual A/T's. I was having a hard time finding anything in stock in town including Wildpeak AT4's, Toyo Open Country AT3's, and even K03's. I ended up on Tirerack late one night (as most car guys do) and found these Cooper Discoverer AT3 XLT in LT275/70R18 E Load Range for $237/tire. They show discontinued and low stock but i was able to order four and they ended up shipping Friday afternoon. I went back and bought a fifth for the spare. They meet all my current needs: 33", All Terrain, Three Peak rated, and a great price (weirdly the 285/60 size up wasn't three peak rated). Should give me plenty of fun for desert season this fall and trips up the 395 this winter. Thanks to @Boston Mangler for having the same idea (haha) and @das100 for his help with fitment.

So, changed today the fluid. Dry steered/pumped as much as I could and filled then something like liter into the system.
And (to my surprise as well..) it looks like that the steering is working well now. Alot of debris came with the old fluid (like little black stuff) and I guess this has built up a bit here and there and kinda blocked the valves or whatever is around the pistons.
Will run this now a few weeks and give it another flush after I know now how to remove the hoses - that was the longest part of the whole process since they sit super super tight and even with the removed top of the airfilter there isn’t much space.

It makes sense since discount owns TR. discount shows the tire discontinued on their website but their eBay store is chock full of stock.

It’s finally happened to me:

Flushed the transmission. First work I’ve done on her (had it just a couple weeks).
