Hey, just a random FYI that I've discovered many CruiserHeads haven't discovered...

You can change your default dash button backlights from GREEN...to AMBER...with just a few button presses.

To me, Amber is more pleasing to see in the dark than green, and green seems more "dated" to me.

Here's what you do:
-Hit Info Button on dash
-Tap “Screen Setting”
-Tap Switch Color...“Orange"
TADA! Now you have Amber dash…and

BONUS: You also get an Amber screen theme to match.

We would be more impressed if you could find the option to get rid of the dang warning screens. Most annoying thing of LC ownership. Lol

Heh... I hear u on that.
Sooo silly to be forced to see that for the LIFE of the vehicle.

My cure for the warning screens is I keep my screen turned off. The GPS stinks anyway...and so I only see the screen when a function I need pops up. Backup cam, climate, etc. all come on when needed, but then black. Voila! No warning screens.

But your button lights are still green? Climate, auto, ect...
 
No. Screen AND all buttons switch to Amber backlights.
I think he meant the physical buttons and not the buttons on the screen, from the picture it looks like the "auto" and "recirculation" are still green.

On my cruiser it's a colour choice of blue or beige. I think the blue is even worse than the green.

Screen changes...but alas...me LED backlights are still green!

Man, I need to check me-self into the loony-bin...

What are your normal temps at those locations? What's the hottest you've seen?

How do you find out your transmission temp to such exact detail?

Changed out spark plugs. 118k and they still looked good and the gap was still 44. I changed them anyway and got 30% off at advanced auto parts for them so $50 beats $90 from the dealer or other parts houses. They are cheap on Amazon, but going on a 3k plus trip this week and did not want to wait. Took about 1.5 hours. including getting ready. The passenger side was actually the easier side for me to do even having to move the water pipes. Ill see if any MPG gains, but not really expecting anything major. All my 120k maint is now done.

I never said anything about baseline temps. Only the temp difference before and after the flush.

Am I speaking a different language? I asked you what your temperatures were and you linked me to your thread thinking there was data. There wasn't. hence my replay.

My interpretation...

He can't provide a baseline temp, since I'm assuming that would need a factory-fresh temp that is free of the effects of old oil, wear, etc. I think he's simply saying he can't provide that as his "before" and "after" temps shouldn't be considered that kind of "baseline."

Sounds to me like maybe you are looking for temps considered normal by Toyota?
 
Finally got my battery in. Strangely, my top bar doesn't have SLEE cut into it. Thanks anyways Christo! Next will be compressor and roof rack. Trying to decide between frontrunner, baja, or gobi. Leaning towards frontrunner.

I see no data for baseline temperatures in that thread.

Baseline is 195-196F. There's a thermostat which is set to open at 195. Anything below that and you're not yet at operating temperature. I'm told the A/T temp light comes on if the TC hits 302F

I see 196F at the pan and the TC when crushing on the highway, or when towing in 4th at 60mph when the outdoor temps are 60-75F. The pan temp moves slowly, but the TC will increase and decrease quickly under acceleration.

Highest I've seen mine is 201F in the pan, 218F in the TC. That's when towing around town with outdoor temps in the upper 80s. I'm sure pulling up mountain passes would increase that, and without towing it's likely less but I don't normally set up the OBD2 reader u less I'm pulling a trailer.

53k on my 2013 btw, so the fluid isn't new but the temps I'm seeing make me think it has a lot of mileage left in it.

I'm curious what the tundra guys see....same engine and transmission. I'm also curious was operating temperatures were for the 100 series.

In short I wouldn't worry about ~200F pan temps and TC temps that hit 220F or so around town or under highway acceleration. With a 5000# travel trailer in 4th gear or with no load in 6th on the highway, the pan temp is basically the same. I highly suspect the Toyota ATF WS is designed to run at 200F all day much like older fluid was designed to run at 175F (so 220F in ATF WS is like 195F in Dexron II or whatever). That or the LC/Tundra transmission components are just improved and able to handle the extra ~20-25F.

@04UZJ100, if you ever want to see what I'm talking about, let me know when you're up in Evanston one weekend.

Same here. That is why I was saying that I saw a decrease in temps after the flush so the transmission loves fresh fluid. I am headed out on a 3k + trip this week pulling my trailer and all leaded up with fridge and family. I will keep an eye on the temps and report when I get back

Monica sees much higher temps... But we also have a massive trans cooler in the rear. Coolant temps of 240+ are where we start getting worried :D
