I live near Lakeland, Florida, in between Orlando and Tampa.
If you ever want a referral to a mechanic who LOVES to work on toyota/lexus, Hit me up.

I'd never sell it. But offers of $12K and above accepted.
My insurance keeps calling wanting to know why I have full coverage on a car that's 18 years old.
I say because it's worth it.

Timing Belt and Water Pump Kit, $214.95 (last TB/WP done at 102K, belt had tiny cracks on exterior, water pump was in great condition but replaced anyway)

and Denso Iridium IK20 Spark Plugs: $50.00 (to replace originals!)

Advance Auto Parts
Cabin Air Filter $19.99
Wiper Blade - rear - 9.99
Wiper Blades - 24" driver, 22" passenger: $50.00

Total Parts: $381.71
2 LBS Freon (Free ($100 worth in Florida)
Total Labor (Water Pump, Valve Covers, Plugs): $700.
Total: $1081.71

For anyone curious about "What does it cost to maintain an 18-year old Lexus LX470? Here's been my experience.

Ongoing "investment" status:
Purchased 6/16 at 178,000: $5800
Baseline Mobil1/Synthetic Fluids $150
Got Stuck and Broke Front Diff, 8/16 - see "Night in the Green Swamp" post - $800 parts & labor (if you don't wheel, and you're not an idiot, you probably won't have this cost)
Front & Rear Pads 7/16: $215.22 - They were toast
5 BFG KO2 285/75/16 & Road Hazard: $1479 (So you don't get stuck in sandy loam again)
OBD II & Techstream: $25.99 - To Diagnose what was basically s***ty tires and tie rod ends causing the VSC to kick in violently sometimes on sweeping left turns
New Radiator 8/16: $407 - because the dude I bought it from probably knew it was cracked and put s***ty sealer in it that lasted long enough to sell it.
Outer Tie-rod Ends, $152.99
After an 8,000-mile trip across the country to the nevada desert and down through California and back across i-10 with a trailer:
CV Axles (Cruiserparts.net) $467.74
CV Axle Labor: $200
After spending 4 days over xmas break 2017 in the Smoky Mountains barreling down fire roads:
Fan Bracket Assembly & Labor (Started squeaking in Asheville, Broke in the parking lot of a Meineke in in Franklin TN): 522.23
New "Gold" battery 1/18: $155.68 - knew the alternator was going but battery was from 5/2013.
Front Rotors & Pads, Axle Seals, Replace original alternator, Fluid Changes 3/18: $500
F'in Cup Holder Assembly: $36.74
Miscellaneous Oil Changes along the way: $250
Plus above Timing Belt, Water Pump, and Valve Covers and Plugs: $1081.71

Parts & Stuff & Services: $5471.30
Truck Cost: $5800.00 (Truck, Tax, Title, Registration in FL)
Grand Total: $11271.30

Oh yeah, After towing an 8,000-lb travel trailer up a sandy hill that an f-250 got stuck in, replace heater t's (yep, they do blow if they're original: $12.00 cash not included in total!)

Things to do before a 2000-mile trip to Michigan and back:
Find a damn spare tire "rosebud" that Discount F'in tire lost: $20.00?
Fuel Filter Replace (Original) - $40.00

Stuff we need to do after a 2000-mile trip to Michigan and back:
Replace CV Axle from cruiser parts that the boot split on last month: $200 labor, part replaced under warranty.
Hoping this might clear up a slight vibration under full acceleration load coming from that side, thinking it might have been a bunk part.

Replace rear shock, threaded upper mount was stripped and it keeps falling out. Mechanic says it doesn't take bolts on top, i'm wondering why there are pics and videos on forum of people cutting their rear cargo floor to put on the bolts? Suspect that dude who pulled out the AHC might have put in some wonky mounts or something? Anyone with experience please DM?

Dreams:
Replace Stereo / Speakers - Subwoofer blown, keep watching for one on eBay, might cost 75.00.
Nakamichi won't play cd's, bought a $17.99 Bluetooth / FM Transmitter with USB charger that is kinda awesome.

$0.19/mile or $490/month with no interest!

Overall stuff I can live with:
Transmission Shift from First to Second isn't great if you're not at the right acceleration. Might flush & fill but worried it may create more problems. Suspect if I dropped cover and adjusted to a different setting might clear it up.
Sunroof has never worked, suspect a seized cable but would rather not get it stuck "open".

Stuff I want to do:
Rail sliders instead of steps - right now they're there as sacrificial lambs in case I ever do crunch something
Bumpers - there's a guy in south florida selling chinese knock-off ARB's for $1200 for front & rear. He even has ARB stickers.
Maybe a winch & front light bar for offroad and camping
Full Safari Rack - why not. Took the Thule crossbars off last month as I never used them and they whistled at 70+.
Pull-out shade and side/rear lighting on safari rack for camping
Rooftop tent - we have fire ants in florida that are a Huge PITA.

Hey Buddy! We should meet up! I'm in Tampa!

And I was just there this past weekend picking up my 05 LC. It was technically in Davenport but close enough. And it definitely wasn’t $5,800 unfortunately.

@Lotarp100, great write up. Thanks!

Double post :bang:

Another busy week with the LC - Genuine Toyota Bonnet/Hood guard, New Snorkel fitted for future excursions, and full service. I also changed the wheels and put on this new set of Advanti 20's...The car looks great in white and black.

I did the Slow seatbelt fix!. It works, but I was impatient, so I busted out the pressure washer. My seatbelt now also smells like freshly cleaned laundry.

Plans for this weekend in order of likleyhood of actually doing it:

  1. I'm hoping that tomorrow I can pull out the front speakers (the PS one is blown and vibrates and rattles at the lowest volumes). I received the Simply Speakers re-foam kits today.
  2. I also received new oil pressure sending units (accidentally ordered two), but after reading other threads, I think my guage might be fine.
  3. I need to take apart the rear brakes and either un-seize them or replace them with the kit I got.
  4. Replace heater Ts and hoses (unfortunately I'm waiting on one hose which Camelback Toyota hasn't sent me yet). My hoses and Ts actually look pretty good, no leaks or corrosion.

Looks great! And... I want one too! Where did you get one with the Land Cruiser print on it?
I bought it from a Toyota dealer in Christchurch, New Zealand. The genuine one comes with the print on it out the box. Only cost me $95NZD which is a bargain and very easy to fit.

It also looks like Toyota are still unsure if Landcruiser is one word or two. The bull bar is a genuine Toyota one and they have printed Land Cruiser and the bonnet guard is Landcruiser :-)

I'm definitely going to look for one. Found one on eBay, listed at $199 (USD). Yikes!

Did the throttle body and MAF douching today. Pretty easy except when a clamp came off a heater hose and coolant went everywhere.. .including a bit in the mouth of the intake. Got it all dried out, cleaned out the TB, and man the Cruiser feels really happy!

new tires and wheels.

18x9 SCS SR8
Cooper ST MAXX

So far not exactly thrilled with them.

Yes, the running boards are coming off next along with the stock roof rack.

Wheels look great!

I feel like these SR8s and the recently introduced (for our bolt pattern) Ray10 give more options to the 100 guys.

You may be the first person to have the SR8s on a 100..
#Trendsetter

Well...long story short but the front my Front Runner Rack snapped where my Rigid Light Bar was attached & dented my roof:crybaby:. After a few weeks in the auto body shop everything on the car was back to normal. I decided to go a different route with my roof rack though, @benc installed his amazing roof rack. The autohome tent and alu cab awning will be back on soon.:)
