Went fishing with my son this morning. Thought I might be pushing my stock height and BFG AT KOs but she purred right through the slop. Didn't even get to use 4Lo. :( Then loaded up my daughter and took her to the mall (with her knee scooter because she severed her achilles tendon a month ago). Then back home and loaded up baseball gear to take my son for a workout. Basically, today my 80 got a Toyota commercial. :flipoff2:

Maybe it's in my head but she definitely runs a lot better with new O2 sensors and no exhaust leaks. I mean, I didn't realize it before but she purrs now. No more "pfft, pfft, pfft". That or maybe she's just happier since I'm giving her a lot of maintenance love. She's such a diva! :princess:

Drove the 80 up to the cottage for the first trip of the year - knew there would will be a bunch of snow on the road (non- plowed private road) but figured the 80 should be able to handle it. I've driven the 70 part way in before and figured the 80 should be able to handle it. The trick is, that the drive in is mostly down the "bad" hills, but then they are not so "bad" on the way out as there is a set of tracks already there.

Snow was varying from nothing, to about 8-10" of the remains of winter, some places with 4-6" of water under the snow. Temp was about 10C, so the snow was soft enough to "mush", not dense enough to ride on top of, but not soft enough to break all the way through. So in some areas it was a nice smooth ride, but others it was chugging along at idle riding up, breaking through, riding up breaking through.... Kind of felt like driving something with lumpy tracks, or idling over logs, but we made it in and out with no drama! Used a mix of both high range with CDL and low range. One hill on the way in took a few attempts, and was most definitely better in high range locked (momentum!)

The general rule with snow on the road is that there are two hills that are a no go with more than a trace of snow - they can be pretty bad in the fall with wet leaves, so we park at the top of the first one (downhill on the way in) and walk the second half of the road. Took a toboggan to get down the two big hills. My son did a good endo half way down (very soft dense mushy snow!)

I've driven in quite a bit of snow in the 80, it's my DD all winter - but this was my first non-paved road snow driving - I didn't push it because I don't have a winch on the 80 - but I did have my hi-lift, a few slings, shackles, chain, shovel and my high-lift. Thankfully I didn't need any of them - happy with the performance of the 80, it just kept chugging along!

No pics during the drive - I was mainly focused on getting in and getting out <awaiting your dirty jokes here> but here is the parking spot (somewhat sunny so not much snow) at the top of the first hill, and second pic is the toboggan endo about 3/4 of the way down the first hill...

Went for a drive and surf at the beach with a good buddy from school. Great day. My 80 enjoyed the beach too

Initiated my first 80 today. Wheeling in Truckhaven. Really challenged my near stock rig. Front bumper scratched and slightly dinted from going face down into the dirt. Rear bumper dinted due to steep hills and rocks. Door dinted due to not thinking to clearly. Went up a steep hill with large ruts in it... oh and a wall of dirt on both side. Smacked the side of the wall :( Now I will be learning how to due body work!

Had a blast today anyhow! 3" lift is on its way! Can't wait!

He looks really good and is in good shape for his age. Grandma died in December after 60 something years of marriage. He was wanting to come up and get out of the house for a few weeks.

Got tired of reading of the ridiculous prices people want for Jerry can holders so I made my own. About 1 hours time, some scrap, a $10 strip of 1/8" steel from Home Depot and $10 worth of SS hardware. Fits like a glove! Btw, it's mounted to my custom homemade "J-Moose" rack that I have a total of <$200 in!!!!

Pretty productive weekend.

Fixed the issue with my Engel not working; it was the fuse in the cable. Also because of messing with that i finished the re-mount of the 12v blue sea socket. I had to move it from last week's install of the puma air compressor blocked it's former location.

Measured and drilled the hole necessary for the Rhino Rack HD bar awning brackets to fit the ARB awning. Then i installed the ARB awning.

Then tossed the RTT back on the cruiser. Washed the RTT and gave it a wax job.

Then i started to ground the old crappy siding i had on my cruiser off in anticipation of the respray (i think i'm going to a Line-x dealer) with something higher quality that will stay.

Learned how to weld so I could mount up some lightforece XGT 240 50W HIDs. ARB bumper has mounting tabs toward the truck but due to the size of the lightforce lights, I had to cut and flip them. Never welded in my life and went by a shop on the way home from work and they wanted $120 to cut and flip the tabs. NFW! Went to harbor freight and spent $70 on a cheapo stick welder and then bought some scrap steel to practice. Here is my setup:

First few attempts on some scrap steel.. Its actually harder than I thought!

Few minutes later..I think I'm ready.

Cut, welded, painted. Not pretty but it will work! Even beat on them with a sledge to make sure they wouldn't budge. Should be ok.

Here they are all mounted up. Went to black rock desert for a little camping this weekend. Those bastards are bright! Wired them to a $2 auto zone switch until the OEM fog switch I ordered gets here.
