What Did You Do with Your 80 This Weekend? (64 Viewers)

Went to Windrock in TN. It was wet & muddy. My friend almost flopped his JK on trail 6 (those are 35" tires for reference). I went through in my 80 right before him. A little driver error on his part but the slippery red clay and severe slope and ruts didn't help. My levoguage was pegged at 45* when I went through it...we were very tippy as well. Too much sliding around to have full control.

Smitty
WHOA! I've slid down a muddy hill before with no ruts and even that was puckering. Can't imagine driving that Jeep!

Wife was out of town this weekend so I decided to take the dogs and go play in the forest. Good times!

Nothing.

Because my head gasket DVD is still MIA after 3 weeks.

:bang:

Went camping!

I installed a 1" body lift from Jonesy's Off Road, CDL switch from Toyo mini truck, 7-pin mod, and removed the fender to replace the antenna with a whip from Autozone. Overall, a very good weekend until I discovered the brakes are grinding and are in need of new pads badly. The Cruiser is parked for now until the pads arrive. Then I have to find out if the rotors are still thick enough to be turned.

Future fixes and mods:
Finally fixing the AC
Cleaning the carpet
Fixing the wet spots on the drivetrain (no drops on the ground yet)

Found a coolant leak

Found a leak in my recently replaced radiator because it is a cheap aluminum/plastic piece of ***. Anyway, got the company to give 100% refund and ordered an all metal al/brass CSF version that gets very good reviews. Will be putting that in this week and hopefully be coolant leak free. Oil is another story....

I haven't been to walker valley yet. I heard that most of the trails would be too narrow and tight for an 80 series- what was your experience?

Walker Valley is very tight and technical. Most of the trails only left inches on each side. I did get a dent just above my 80's gas flap but that was trying to fit on an even narrower bypass to what would have normally been a turn around event. I'm just lucky the tree didn't break the side slider glass. I could push her off the tree with one finger. I'm only running 31's and I recommend 35's. I had to drag the diff more than once. I still love the look on the jeep guys faces when they see me half way through a good trail. Walker is as tight as it gets before constant damage to sheet metal on an 80

Accidently bought a 91 80 with 257k miles. PO drove it to my house and rode his bike home. Needs everything but everything still works and no CEL on. Couldn't see the engine so spent $6 on it at the car wash. Took it to the scale to weigh it. Me with a tank on E it was 5020lbs. Love the cloth interior.

Don't know what I'm going to do with it yet... might fill it will gas and take it to the crash derby or chop the top and put that 77 Sunrader camper out back on top of it..

Nice, we can upload 5 pictures now!

Obviously not the weekend. Will carry me into the weekend though.

Finally getting around to putting sliders on. I picked up the steel today. My cousin is doing all the fab work for me. I picked up 20' of 4"x2", 20' of 2"x2", and 10' of 1/4"x3" of flab bar. Pitched it all up from Greer Steel for $210.60 out the door.

We did some measurements after I dropped it all off at my cousins house and he got busy cutting.

72" long 45 at both ends of the "4x2"
45 of 2"x2" then down the length with gussets every 12" and 45 off the back end.
Overall extends 10" from the body.

He should have the main body put together this week and hopefully will finish the install this weekend.

Fixed the circuit that makes the ring around the ignition switch fade to black after closing the driver's door, so it doesn't sit there glowing dimly all night and all day draining my battery.

Moody Hill Quarry and Crystal Mountain. Made the kids get out of the car for fewer distractions and/or fatalities if I turned out to be as incompetent as I feared.

Nice bumper dent on the 2nd approach to the lower obstacle, but got through pretty easily. Crazy how the lower obstacle is actually a bit harder than the scary looking upper one.

I love that trail! Similar setup to you and have made it up the same route, it's an interesting obstacle because it's constantly changing due to use and erosion. I can't get the video to work but I am sure it does it no justice. Hit me up next time you are up north.
