Just made another trip from Orlando to NYC :)

Left Orlando 8pm Friday, arrived in Manhattan at noon Saturday, then went cruising around for a few hours

Nothing unusual as I do this every few weeks, but this time around, I recorded the entire trip on a GoPro and will be making a time lapse video ;)

By next week, she should be rolling 300,000 miles :grinpimp:

Installed Xfer case/trans and front diff breather extensions with stone filters. Also picked up a Kobalt Stainless steel 3 drawer tool chest floor model for $80, works good except for the lock but the rig is always locked anyway :)

Stone filters? As in like fish tank?

One week and the running boards are useless, took it upstate (NY) and wheeled for the first time with some great folks,,,

Did the auto-up window mod.

We loaded up the 4 kids and wife and headed to Colorado a few weeks ago.
Outside temps were in the 105-110 range driving thru most of Oklahoma.
Thinking about making a trip with the original HG started to eat on me but I overcame the fear and did it anyway.
I did the Autozone block test before we left and everything was fine. Peace of mind.
Fresh rad/block flush and oil change of course and we're off.

Anyway, everything went fine.
I've owned my 80 for over 6 years and I love her more each day.
Yea, it's an old truck but I trust it and I know how to work on it.
From cruising down the hiway in summer heat to crossing 4x4 passes, it works well for us.
Years ago I lived and worked as a field mechanic in Quito Ecuador (10,000' up in the Andies Mts.) and found out quickly about Toyota Landcruiser durability.

You know, these trucks do pretty amazing in the higher altitudes for a big 6 cyl.
Don't be afraid to push past 3000+rpm, take the cruise off, and actually drive the truck.
Downshift early, get runs at hills, and you'll be fine.
With 6 people and 800lb of gear, I could keep up with traffic on most mountain roads and would occasionally see 4000rpm, running no higher than 198 temp.

We're back home and all went well. My only beef is wishing the seats were more comfy.
I'm 6'2" so the seat mod helped a bunch. Thanks again Landtank!

'bout time I contributed to this thread...

This weekend, took the 80 back home for my niece's wedding reception. Got just shy of 15 mpg, 65 mph, A/C on and off. :)

Also took the wife to the airport for her conference and visit back home. I've got almost two weeks all by myself...;)
Too bad I'm trying to get the diss draft out the door by the end of Sept:rolleyes::crybaby:

I did improve the CB antenna on the truck a few weekends back. The truckers have got a big-@ss CB mount now that seems designed with off-roading in mind. It's phat.

I drilled a strategically placed hole in the ARB, added a spring I had on hand and a 3' antenna. Got the SWR down to about 1.5, but the location ain't the greatest and it's way better than the emergency use only SWR I had before. It's a good location for protection against snagging and it hasn't whipped into the fender yet, despite speed and the ugly Issac winds of this weekend.

Uncle Meat,
Great pics of Colorado, especially Mosquito Pass.

King Kong,
Heh, never thought I'd see a "woody" 60.

93yotasr5,
Thanks for the props. It was the best location after everything better was eliminated, but it came out OK, just wish it had better SWR.

We use a tailgate tent and awning when camping, so I really couldn't put it anywhere in back, on the hatch, etc. My wife nixed using the tabs on the ARB as too much in the line of sight. Our garage limits overall height anyway, so a 3' antenna would probably hit entering and leaving if mounted there.

I saw a documentary the other day where they were using a 70 series pickup. Their antenna was mounted smack dab in the middle of the hood. Kind of leaves a hole and my better half wouldn't stand for it, but I bet it's darn good SWR there centered in that great ground plane.

Got my boat side sliders installed, thanks to SoCalfrank! A review will be coming soon.
