This hill is pretty steep. You can’t tell from the picture. Loose rocks. Dude was way into using the gas pedal. He ended up breaking a front axle. I offered to pull him out to the highway. He insisted he could go out the other way, like ten extra miles… backed down the hill, and we parted ways. We were like 100 feet from the exit road.

Which sucked. By the way.
Don’t see a 3/4 ton IH drive line break very often, he must have been way overzealous with the go pedal!!!!

He had the wheels turned full left, he might not have known that. I’ve been there… I tried to tell him to straighten it out. He wasn’t watching/listening. Then, SNAP!

That was about 3hrs, door to door. It took more coming home, I helped (tried to help) a couple in their cool IH pickup, then I decided to drive around the eastern shore of Lake Tahoe, which I don't think I've ever done before...

So that ended up being like a nine hour drive home.

Ya that's probably 5-6 one way from here.

My side of the state is awesome in the summer but winters.... Meh

a true dirty old man would have gotten a pic of the GF!! next to the truck of course...
Hot spring. It’s right there.

Anyway…

UPDATE on my stolen 1997 Collector's Edition. Absolutely NO help from the detective. After almost 2 weeks he said he hadn't even got the video footage from the surrounding stores. The insurance agent told me he talked to the loss prevention manager at the Home Depot and it was stolen about 2pm Sunday.
Here is where I could use help from the forum (Let me know if I should start a new thread or read an existing one). They will probably cut me a check for a total loss and that's where I am expecting the insult-to-injury part of this.
Has anyone gone through this where the payout value was under the market value? What are some ways to counter this?
I won't ask too much here because maybe this should be moved to another thread.
I just hope no one here ever has to go through this. And thanks for all your support here.

Pull every photo and record you have and hire a professional automobile appraiser. Then suit-up for a fight. If you do not have a stated value policy your shirt will likely leave your back.

Different situation but my buddy totaled his 80 in an accident and insurance paid him out 28k after he handed over a folder of receipts and comps. He was happy with the payout but afterwards his insurance rate went sky high because they wanted their money back. Almost unaffordable insurance rates after the payout.

Don't accept the first offer, or the 3rd, or the fifth. Find a comparable 80 series you would be happy to own as a replacment and tell the insurance company to pay you enough to buy it and get it registered.

Goodluck

Can't wait...

Thanks everyone! I have researched what a no rust ,Collector's Edition with factory lockers (the rarity of it as well) price would be and they are definitely a hard find. I'm taking all of your suggestions to heart..they are great. ❤️

Maybe start a new thread, unsure of where, but with a list of recognizable items/parts it had. Im over in the Madison area, and I see stuff up there to Chicago on MP in my searches. Probably wont recoup everything, but may get a name.....

@nigelsiam you are dealing with what I'm sure is a big fear for many of us and I hope they are able to make you whole. It took me a long time to find my rust-free, locked, '97 CE and one of it's few downsides is how hard it would be to replace if something happened to it. Hopefully you don't have to spend too much time getting them to a # that works for you.

Great idea! I've been checking Marketplace in a 500 mile radius and nothing yet.
