What Did You Do with Your 80 This Weekend? (49 Viewers)

I had a very "methodical" piece-by-piece weekend. If @Fj80oregon worked at my pace he would need to find a new way to pay the bills.... but progress is progress and hopefully I get all those @#$&*! tiny vacuum hoses connected back to correct spots!

I went ahead and installed all the sensors on the driver's side of the block, head and upper intake manifold along with a new front seal and harmonic balancer and new gaskets for the oil cooler. Also installed 6 new injectors (incl new wire connectors) and new fuel pressure regulator along with all new fuels, cooling and vac hoses. Had already recently replaced the power steering pump (and aftmkt fin cooler), and alternator, water pump and have all a new oem radiator to finish things up. Ended up replacing a lot more parts (and spending a lot more $$!) than I had originally planned on what started out to be a preventative head gasket replacement, but hopefully it pays off in the end as well as resolving a bunch of the small oil leaks that were driving me crazy (still have a small leak that is either the upper oil pan or rear main seal I will need to tackle at some point).

Big thanks to @OTRAMM and @Fj80oregon, and IH8mud for making this project something I could tackle on my own! I guess the big test will be to see if the ol beast starts on the 1st try in hopefully a week (or so).

10hr marathon yesterday to finish it up…. Cranked for about 5 sec, then fired right up (assume it had to pressure up the fuel filter). It has a “stutter” hesitation accelerating from a dead stop (which it did not do prior to rebuild), but runs great otherwise. Double checked all the vacuum lines and the MAF connection and all seemed good. I will double check the timing and the TPS tomorrow (seems the TPS is one of the few sensors I didn’t change out… go figure).

I have the same cooler setup and works great for me too...maybe the tight steering was in part to the f'd up stabilizer mounting?!?

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and say that a P.O. did that for you... ;)

Haha yes, one of the 6 PO's are responsible!

Started working on upgrading the shocks and focused on the Front first. The 30 year old upper oem Tokico shock bolts were frozen so I had to cut it off. The driver side was a pain since there was no room for the cutoff wheel, got it done though. Went with the Dobinson's IMS shocks (f/r).

Shocks ordered from Exit Off Road (thanks Mike).

What wheels are those? I just got my 91 rig painted and the OEM chrome wheels are a little rough. I might get new ones rather than try to find someone to refinish them.

I sat and looked at it, since Fed Ex thought it would be fun to fool with my emotions by promising to deliver the last three o-rings and seals I need to put the timing cover back on for five days. I had the weekend set aside to do the work, since the scheduled delivery day was last Wednesday, I should have had plenty of time.

**sigh**

They came today, and the delivery guy came up to the corner of my garage and flung the box twenty feet to my door. There was nothing that could be harmed inside, all rubber seals and orings as I said, but I was not in a mood for that crap when it happened after watching the delivery status show as here in town and not change for a week.

🤬🤬

We have a notoriously horrible facility in Oregon I think they enjoy pissing people off. I hate FedEx

That looks a little uncomfortable.
it definitely was. I kept waiting for the front to hit or go on my side. Never happened and drove out.

Quick weekend trip to Utah with @ExpoMax. No longer in an 80, but thats okay. His little Diesel GMC is pretty cool. We did lots of driving between Friday night and Monday morning but it was so fun. We made it all the way down to Lake Powell at one point. 1,300 miles in 3 days. Cruiser did not miss a beat.
