Took my brother and his 100 up to the mountains for some dirt therapy and camping.

they look close but significantly different. white vs black mirrors, fenders and different sticker on the window, sliders and rack on one but not the other, different wheels, different rear bumper, factory swing out etc.

Was that a factory decal the orange/yellow/red with black toyota text?

Weird.

I like the toyota colors and decals, but also like being somewhat non descript and hard to identify sometimes too. A generic grey is easier to dispute speeding tickets than something with standout-ish markings.
You can get SPEEDING tickets in your 80? Color me jealous :D

Exactly! Topped a hill on my way to Tennessee last week just as a 4runner was blowing past me. Mr. Trooper man on the other side immediately hit the lights. I laughed with 100% certainty saying to myself, "I KNOW he's not after me".

Smacked my tailpipe on a rock last weekend. Noticed this while crawling around under the rig today.

Not sure if the burn in the spare is my fault or if the tailpipe was fabricated wrong. Should I be having words with the exhaust shop about how close they ran this pipe to the spare? I feel like this will prevent me from going up to 285's if I want to keep my spare in the stock location.

If that spare tire was in that location and you paid for a new exhuast and the new exhuast was installed that close to the spare than I would definitley recommended words with the shop that did the exhuast. Words about a new tire and fixing the exhuast placement.

There's a good chance you are responsible for this by smacking your tailpipe on a rock. s*** moves around when it gets whacked. Investigate more closely before taking it to the exhaust shop . Also, did you discuss the possibility of a larger spare with them when they initially made the tailpipe? If not, there's no reason they wouldn't run it where it's convenient given the current hardware. Could go either way.

How are those KM3's treating you? I like the look but I've heard mixed reviews.

They drive well and look great, especially on trail but are pricey and I don’t think I’m gonna get many miles out of them. My truck is mainly purpose built but I still do daily drive a good amount so I will probably try a different tire next time that get me a bit more longetivity.

When you say you're not going to get mileage out of them, what kind of numbers we talking about? 20-30k?

The spare was there when the exhaust was done. I don't recall how close it was originally. I don't expect them to buy me a new tire or alter the routing for free, but I would like to find a diplomatic way to say "Hey, I think this was put in too close to my spare, what can we do about it? "

100% agree that this is probably my fault. Did not discuss the possibility of a larger tire down the road so that's also on me. However, I did specify that it needed to be beefy for off-road use. I've inspected all the mounts and welds, nothing seems horribly bent or out of shape.

I think I'll send the photo to the shop and get their input. I honestly don't mind paying them to reroute so it's away from the spare but it would be nice to work out a discount perhaps.

If you smacked your exhuast hard enough to move it more than an inch than you would definitley see some bends or something out of place.

An exhuast shop should know better than to run exhuast that close to a spare tire or anything else flammable or meltable.

I will have to check but Ive had them for a year and a month with maybe 8k miles so far. They just seem to wear much faster than my former Duratracs, which i got about 60k miles out of.

That might be it. Although I would think that would be disclosed in the description. Here’s what my DS looks like.

You can see that the flare is shifted forward (from the original line in the paint) and where it’s been rubbing the bumper.
Unfortunately I got a response. They told me to hog the holes out enough so the bumper does not touch the flares. Not sure there is another solution. 🤷‍♂️

Hmm interesting. That or relief the flares I suppose. Neither sounds good.

If it were mine I would weld the bolt holes shut and drill new holes.

I guess I could drill through and put bolts all the way through the frame rail. Good idea.

Just to be clear, I think he meant weld the holes in the bumper shut and then drill new ones in the bumper that will line up with the existing frame holes.

WTF
You shouldn't even have to do any mods. That's a lazy azs response without any mention of comp on their end. You waited 10+ weeks and now this?-sorry I feel your pain.
