I completed my first round of baseline and necessary repair work on my 97 LX. Please bear with me as this is the largest DIY audio mechanical work I’ve ever done.

Shiny new things:
—Radiator
— Large and small rad hoses
— Thermostat
— Belts
—Oil pump gasket

I buttoned everything back up, fired up the LX and the engine sounded great, high RPMs for the first couple minutes and then everything settled down below 1K at idle. Good coolant level and Scangauge temp is about 8 degreees cooler now that I have a Mr T thermostat in there (something made in the USA was in before.) Heat is blowing hot in the cabin.

There is, however, a high pitched noise, and I can’t decipher where it’s coming from. If the belts are too tight will they make a high pitched noise? I read some threads about AC pulley bearing issues causing some high pitched noises. So my first step tomorrow will be removing the AC belt and seeing what I come back with after that test.
Belts can definitely make a high pitched noise for a # of reasons. One reason being if they got covered in antifreeze..... Other reasons they could squeal would be incorrect tension or a siezed pulley/accessory such as an AC compressor.

If the squeal was not there before all the work you just did than I kind of doubt it is a siezed AC compressor, pulley, or bearing of any kind. My guess is you spilled anti freeze on the belts and or they are incorrectly tensioned.

Good luck

Really like your fuel can holder and tire holder/swingout. Are they discussed on ih8mud. If so, would appreciate keywords.

Kaymar tire carrier- I will be selling it soon. (Avid offroad on their way)

Jerry can holder off Amazon secured by (4) U bolts onto Gobi rear ladder.

Media blasted then hi-temp engine enamel on the alloy. Took the spark plug covers apart to paint as well. Thinking about doing it to all the alloy parts while they are out. Waiting for the new short block to be finished.

@leonard_nemoy they did get antifreeze on them when it bubbled over while I was topping off the radiator while the engine was running. Should I replace them or will it go away over time?

No need to replace them. Just make sure they are properly tensioned and it should go away with time.

I have also heard that you can clean them by rubbing a bar of soap on the belt or with warm water and dish soap, but I have never tried either of these methods.....

Are the belts OEM?

Not as much snow as they claimed but quite a bit of heavy wet snow overnight, flying over the corner of the hood but not up and over. Betting the foothills got a good 2-3 feet tho. Enough to test out the CDL and clean the front axle out, test the TOYO tires and new gears. Gearing is nice for the 37’s but still underpowered in the deep wet snow. Can’t get a v8 in soon enough...

Replaced the brush on my alternator. Unknown if it had ever been done or if the alternator had been replaced.

Made it to the beach! Setup camp, and hit the dunes. Weather is nice today, though a bit windy. Winding down for dinner by the fire, then back at it in the morning. 😀

I love it, that looks like a super good time.

I also love your camo paint job. Your rig has always been one of my favorites on this forum.

Have you documented your camo paint technique? I would love to know how you did it..... I am very tempted to copy you except I would go with some desert colors.

Thanks for the compliment. I use 1/4" fine line tape, to start the pattern. Then mask the rest. The military paint has held up pretty well, considering I don't really try to protect it.

All my posts are pretty much on this thread. Starting here...
