Rolled up to Mendocino nat’l Forrest. Shocking to see how much has burned since I’ve been there last. It was impossible to travel a mile without out seeing something that had been ravaged by fire in last couple years. Hats of to the fire crews - THANK YOU.

We found some snow above 5000’ (glad we packed the sleds cuz we sledded our buts off for most of the afternoon) and lots of mud. Decided to camp at a lower elevation cuz a storms system was due to push through today. And didn’t want to be stranded there like the 9 bozo jeepers that got rescued nearby last weekend.

Trail wasn’t technical, but I was extremely pleased with the Dobinsons IMS and new Toyos and delta vs arms. Handled the slosh, sludge and snow no problemo, floated over the bumps and ruts. Cruised 70+ on the highway, lots of backroads and twisty stuff, all felt very confident. No noticeable dip in mpg, or uphill chug performance. I’m stoked on this build. Exceeds expectations.

Dropped it off at the shop to get a side cladding delete, new paint job, upgrade the front grill (cruiser grills), and finally replace my ARB rear bumper with one of Luke’s 4x4 Lab. Here’s where we’re at with the work so far...

Got my FZJ80 on its first mini trip, to a farm of mine near my hometown. After lots of time "building" my rig with a friend, it was its first adventure and god, I LOVE MY TRUCK. Pulls like a beast. Got unstuck two of my friends, and then I got stuck. Luckily there was a tractor near by and got pulled out of the mud hole! Nice little

adventure. And a great barbecue at camp!

It was a 2-3 hour "cook". Nice idea for that ring! JAJAJAJA

Hanging around Fort Collins this week and playing in the snow. Sorta bummed I wasn’t in Colorado Springs it seems like they got more but still plenty of people to pull out and and places to get stuck here. Tried to make it up to horse-tooth reservoir and was chugging just fine until it comes to a big sweeping up hill right hand corner. Soon as I lost momentum I started sliding into the ditch. Winched my ass back onto track thanks to the guard rail and kept on fighting it up but the friends I was with lost interest so we didn’t quite make it. Super fun though!

I completed my first round of baseline and necessary repair work on my 97 LX. Please bear with me as this is the largest DIY audio mechanical work I’ve ever done.

Shiny new things:
—Radiator
— Large and small rad hoses
— Thermostat
— Belts
—Oil pump gasket

I buttoned everything back up, fired up the LX and the engine sounded great, high RPMs for the first couple minutes and then everything settled down below 1K at idle. Good coolant level and Scangauge temp is about 8 degreees cooler now that I have a Mr T thermostat in there (something made in the USA was in before.) Heat is blowing hot in the cabin.

There is, however, a high pitched noise, and I can’t decipher where it’s coming from. If the belts are too tight will they make a high pitched noise? I read some threads about AC pulley bearing issues causing some high pitched noises. So my first step tomorrow will be removing the AC belt and seeing what I come back with after that test.

Also in NorCal, also novice mechanic, also have a squeeky noise coming from belts. Keep us posted if this ends up being the AC pulley.

I know there's a thread on there instructing how to change these belts in a very short amount of time - did you find it as easy as this mentions? Was hoping to try this to fix the squealing noise...

Nothing as exciting as the above posts. Everybody with piles of snow and we are back in shorts and t-shirts here in Texas already. We've got family coming into town, lots to do this weekend, but the temps were in that super rare perfect camping range for Texas so I took my son out for a quick camp and canoe at a nearby state park for his birthday. Loving being able to pile everything in the back of the truck where it's secure and covered.

The military paint has held up pretty well, considering I don't really try to protect it.

By "military paint" do you mean the camo pattern or did you literally use some kind of military surplus paint? If not did you just use the old rattle can special?

LCs' for the win. Saving lives. Last month I had to pull a buddy and his friend's truck out of some muddy water while there were duck hunting. Thier friends Jeep didn't have enough ass.

Didn't want to take pics and embarrassed them, but the buddy's friend had a new respect for the LC.

Medium-distance run of about 900 miles from Chattanooga, TN > Greensboro, NC > Atlanta, GA > Chattanooga, TN. 80 ran like a road-crushing sewing machine. My associate and I were visiting a couple customers. Also, the 80 found a friend when we pulled into the hotel in Greensboro. I’m the LX on the right.

Things to check:
1.) Rear end vibration b/w 65-70mph and upon de-acceleration when around 80. Not sure what the deal is there. I’ll take my guru for a ride and see if he can diagnose.

2.) Some kind of more comfortable seat option for the front. I guess MR. T designed the gas tank / mileage around how long a 6-ft tall guy can stand one-sitting.

Pulled 3rds for regear, replaced the head gaskets for MLS type, (boost incoming) and made some lines to swap all the trans and steering lines to -6 AN.

Spent the weekend bombing around Anza Borrego. This was a fun shakedown run for a lot of new gear and work done to the cruiser. Full new 3” lift, new 35’s, new rear drawers and Expo mat. I grew up tent camping and backpacking, so sleeping in the back of the cruiser was new to me! White Jeep guy wins for most bolt-ons!
