What Did You Do with Your 80 This Weekend? (112 Viewers)

Saw that it was on those roller thinga-ma-jigs to move the truck around. Everything I’ve read is that unless you buy really really nice ones that they aren’t going to roll for crap. I’d image with a truck as heave as the 80 that they are basically worthless. Along with lowering the tires pressure as suggested above, you might as well remove those rollers for more clearance as well.
The rollers are mostly useless. I bought them so I can roll away from a wall and back. I only have a 2 car garage and my wife needs to park on the other side. Her Q7 has huge doors (door dings) and I want to be able to slide the truck as far to the side as possible.

I can move it with all my strength but I am 6'4" and 235lbs. Ill likely try to rige up something to make it easier.

Basically I would not recommend them as they really do not work for 90% of SUV/truck applications.

Drove it to the hardware store and got lucky in the ammo dept.....

@Azca. I would have liked to clean thing up a lot more and I did drop $15 at the car wash. With at said. I definitely did not do a through enough job on the engine bay. If you can believe it it was a lot worse.

I am going to have a pause day and review the 30+ pictures I took and label, label, label! This is the point where I am going to need a couple of paint pens.

I will let the air out to get a few more inches. I'm 6'4" and tend to worry about things being too low.

Thanks again for the solid advice. I think my anxiety was coming from lack of labeling. It was starting to get to the point where I felt I could not remember each thing I took off.
I understand on the memory, you won't remember, don't try. The pics and info on my rebuild post may help. If you have a laptop, store the pics on there for reassembly. The nice thing about airing down the tires, you can always air them up again. Cheap way to get a few more inches of clearance.

Folks usually use a long breaker bar lashed to the frame rail for the crank pulley bolt. They then bump the starter to loosen the bolt. No experience personally, but that’s the process I’ve read.
Also more typical of the 1FZ-FE than the 3F-E

Thanks for tip. I was afraid that method is the way to go. I know many have done it that way but it makes me so nervous!. I might try my 1400ft/lb duga duga with a thick wall socket and some heat. If that does not work then I'll try the bump.

Dang. Check your blinker fluid levels at the suggested FSM intervals or you might end up looking like this. You’ve been warned.

Did an oil change (5W30 / YZZD3)
Changed the PS reservoir bolts, as they had been stripped in the manifold for years. Discovered the holes were deep enough and already threaded that a longer bolt would "refresh" the support of it. (M8 x 1.25 x 20mm flanged head from O'Reilly)
Tightened the alternator belts.
Removed and replaced the valve stem in the RR tire.
314646 miles

In the last couple weeks was the battery and power brake booster as well as a giant magnetic Band-Aid on the sunroof.

I have noticed since replacing the booster that most of my stumble at idle has gone away. I wonder if there was so much vacuum leak that it was affecting it?

Discovered that it's time for new tires whether I like it or not. The RR tire has some air bleeding through the sidewall in the side lugs. These are GY Duratracs in 285/75-16 and they have 96,452 miles on them. I think they've done well.

So, I gotta get my new to me LX wheels polished and painted so I can get new tires installed. I've had them for about 4 years, and they've been bead blasted for two years, sitting in the garage in garbage bags.

I'm far from a mechanic, but used this method to change out the FMS, Oil gasket and a few other things and it works really well. Just have a high quality breaker bar and socket, strap it all down securely, and disconnect the distributor so the engine doesn't start. I had zero issues, and I was nervous as hell when I started it up.

@gixxerjasen
Spend the money up front and don't be inconvenienced at in opportune times due to a dead battery.

I'm at 6.5 years on one of these sli35agm batteries, 5.5 years on another and 4.5 years on a 3rd. In two different cruisers. One has two.

If you watch them they go on sale every so often. I think they are 10% off now

When I had them look it up at Batteries Plus today, they came up with a 27 series battery (significantly larger) for my 97 LX (for the blue top AGM). What am I missing here? I have a single battery setup in original location and it’s a gold battery that looks about the size of this 35 you referenced here.

Replaced and successfully bled the LSPV and breaks thanks to help from fellow mud members-stops on a dime now. Fixed the AC-seized tensioner pulley due to wrong installation. PO had it recharged and leak checked several times by an AC shop. New tensioner pulley and belt and it blows ice cold. Replaced the seat gears but it seems like the motor is blown. Replaced the battery terminal connectors that were cracked. All in all a good start to the weekend.

The original battery from the factory is a group 27F. The "F" is important as the positive terminal is located on the inboard side closest to the engine. The group 27 has the positive post closest to the fender. The alternative being a smaller battery would be the group 24R which locates the terminals in the same orientation.
