Unfortunately, T may not be to blame, I think they were designed without those features and the roof rack and wind deflector were added later at Port in the US and possibly other places.
The flares I am not sure of which countries had or didn’t have or if it was known at design they would be added at assembly later for some areas, but certainly appear to be an afterthought as well.

I am deflared and I went wheeling with an 80 that still had the flares a few weeks ago. We got into a lot of mud, my rig had a lot more mud on the body, roof, hood, windshield, mirrors, etc. Sometimes I still wish I had flares.
Spent a little more time trying to fix my roof rack and get it back to original dimensions. Here is a photo showing the extended bent crossbars.
I got two new crossbars made and painted today and also got the crossbar on the front back to original size.
I still need to get a few more coats of paint on the parts and figure out what I am doing with the IPF 900 lights before I get it re-installed. I was able to get the lights opened up, they use a H9 bulb. I am still trying to decide if I should upgrade to HID bulbs or led bulbs.
Easily a good 1/2 of the work I have to do is fixing stuff that would not require fixing if the port installed crap wasn't added. I have enough to do with leaking valve cover gaskets and such. A clean 80 is nice in a utilitarian sort of way.
Thank you, but it looks good from a distance. It has lived a good life, earning it's keep for what it was designed, to do stuff. It has been sidelined since the 200 showed up, which has done an equally good job for which it was designed.
I'm fighting the urge to sell the 80, I currently have 3 phone numbers from prospective buyers. At this point I still like driving and working on it, satisfying in it's own perverse kind of way.

I think I am going to try and install some HID's. I have never messed around with retrofitting lights, so this will be a good learning experience. I like these old school lights and I want to keep them. Time for some research....
I got these ARB IPF 900 lights pulled apart today. They have H9 bulbs inside of them. Is it just as simple as swapping in a HID H9 bulb. Or do I need to use some kind of conversion kit.
Yeah you will need h9 hid bulbs and ballasts. It's very simple to do the wiring. I use ddm tuning for hid stuff. You can go right to the ddm tuning website, their shipping is slow, sometimes u can find their stuff on Amazon. Affordable and lasts longer than other Affordable hid bulbs in my opinion. 35 watt will last longer but 55 watt will be a little brighter. I would stay in the 4000 to 5500 light color range.
Knuckles, Birfs, Drive Flanges, Calipers and Shoes, Troubleshoot ABS code 32, OME shocks and springs, 285/75/16 Toyo AT-IIIs, Amsoil in Diffs and T-Case... well OK maybe not in one weekend. Now off to get an inspection...
It finally snowed here enough to stick to the ground. On the way to the hardware store I did some parking lot crawling lol. The big fat pig smushed the snow pile too much to get a good stuff but super happy with how well the fitment looks so far, minus the turning rub. Land Tank arms on order (hoping they don't push the wheel back too far)and hopefully the Delta arms and dorm setup once Dave gets me my invoice.
Current 3.5 OME is a bit low but thinking the 3.5" Dob's and 1" body, I'm going to be super happy.
Also tested out the TOYO's(37 13.5 x 20) and Wilwood calipers and absolutely love both. Amazing stopping even with the ABS and the takeoff is great minus the 4:10 gears. No matter how hard I gun it they wont spin. 4:88's coming this week tho! This thing drives in the snow how I remember it, I had the biggest POS BFG KM2's that were the absolutely worse tires I have had in every way and excited to get past them.

I have had my 80 since 1997 and Toyos MTs are by far the best wheeling tire I have had on my rig. Very quiet for a mud tire yet the sidewalls seem bullet proof.
