We had one of those Apaches back in the 70s. On elk hunts we had to make sure to put something against the side where your head was or you would wake up with your hair frozen to it. Lots of fun came out of that rig.

Just before putting it in the garage I could see a hole in the front CAT that was big enough to both hear and see exhaust coming out of it. Decided it was time to replace.

Having done the HG brfore on my wheeling rig and remembering how much of a pain was cleaning everything, I decided to make an investment into laziness. 8 gallon ultrasonic cleaner. Like a kid on Christmas ... put everything in it. Fan for scale.

Not sure if the alternator should have gone in, but the internet said yes, so in it went.

Not too bad for just water and one gallon Simple Green.

Not perfect, but much better considering how caked on the oil was. Leaning that how it is oriented in the tank will affect how and where it get clean the most. Still spins nice and smooth, guess I will see if it still works or not.

just Did front crankshaft seal and oil pump cover gasket it went smoothy, I used the wits end kit also didn't have a 300# torque wrench on hand. I just used 250# one clicked it a couple times, then hit it with a 24" breaker bar with a 3 foot pipe and put all my weight on it about 5 times. i should be good right?
I used a 5ft pipe and a fish scale, then calculated torque. Fish scale can be calibrated using a known weight, like a bucket of water. Used this method (NO 5ft pipe) to cross check Calibration on torque wrenches

Spent the long weekend up in Coyote Flat. Saw a number of 80's and 100's and a few forum members...good times.

The fires and smoke made for somewhat apocalyptic looking scenery, but absolutely beautiful sunsets/sunrises.

Got to pull test the welds on my 4x4labs kit bumper, thankfully it passed and I got the 2WD Xterra w/ my friends in it up to our campsite. (The owner is sending me ads for 3rd and 4th gen 4Runners...I think she saw the light...anything with a transfer case would be an improvement...though TBH I think her dollar would go further with a Montero or a 4WD Xterra, but hey...if I can keep my straps packed up neatly I don't care what she drives.)

Also it was my first trip trying out my new homebuilt water/propane carrier swing-arm as well as a bike rack that bolts into the spare tire arm. Both held up great, have a few tweaks to do on the propane holder but all in all quite happy with my DIY fab (I'm like a 4/10 on the fabricator scale so I take victories when they come.) Here's an unglamorous shot from airing up outside Bishop.

Now I definitely need to move on new suspension, my OME 860 coils were suffering with all the weight from the bumper, drawers, fridge, etc...hit the bumpstops more often than on any prior trip.
It's been years since I've been up there. Absolutely beautiful country.

Put the roof top tent back in the garage so we could haul paddle boards up to the lake.

My contraption works pretty well, ideally it would be taller however this is the max height I can go allowing the tent to clear under the garage door. It's also not especially rigid, but works fine for storage in the garage (no wind or snow loads). If I did it again it would go with 2x6's instead of 2x4's. Additionally if It had to be pushed any distance there should be a temporary support on the bottom between the wheels to reduce flex.

I really like your hoist setup. Seems like something most anyone could install in their home garage without compromising space at all. I have been pondering buying a cherry picker, but this seems way more convenient and useful.

Replacing the other 3 window motors on the truck. Replaced one a long time ago and love how much faster it is.

Anyone tell you how much fun it is lol. 😂

Well, after at least 15 min of trying to screw the new one in, I gave up and inspected the hole. Realized Doorman does not thread the holes anymore. :bang: **edit, I apparently already knew this the last time I installed one. ** 😆

Luckily I purchased a tap and die set last year...

Over the long weekend I first replaced the radiator cap:

To celebrate the incredible amount of effort I put into installing the cap and to test the install I went for a drive to the woods to cook some food and sleep:

Once I felt the radiator cap install was still leak free I decided to really test it out and get horribly stuck in cake batter Georgia Clay:

All around a good long weekend. Several hours later with the help of a pressure washer everything is clean again. Including the radiator cap.

Ahhhh, these mvvthur fuvkkerrs! Soooo, the polarity is reversed too now. Took panel off again and swapped the motor pins.

Another lesson learned. Check proper operation before you wrap it up.

Ah, a problem I've solved. Double up a pair of 2"x4"s between one caster to the next and use Simpson square 'L' shaped brackets to hold in place while rolling (hammer in one nail for the brackets to hold to). Remove braces once contraption is in place.

Thank you. I prefer this over the picker because I can lower it very slowly and make sure it sits down flat.

You can get it on Amazon:

Hey mud ppl,
For those of you like me, without a swing out or a roof rack, how do you bring extra fuel along on your trips?

I never did. Never wanted fuel in the cab with me. Fueled up close to trail head and sometimes leave camp to fill up again.

Sorted the cables that have been hanging out from my ashtray for a year after I changed the head unit out and connected the ebrake sensor so Android Auto actually works.

Halfway through trying to get the mic on the rear view mount I chickened out for fear of damaging the headliner. We'll see if this works.

This arrived today. I’ll be plugging it in and doing the pin-7 mod in the morning.
