Have had a valve cover leak for a long time so now in the process of replacing valve cover gasket and other parts in the area

Replaced the hatch and hood struts today as the cold weather made my 4 yr. old ones start to sag. I used these from Amazon. The price was right but the locating tab on the hood struts needed to be rebent to fit. Not a deal killer, but just be aware. Rears were straight bolt in.

I also have been collecting parts for the better part of a year in preparation for a refresh of my steering system. Pic is for part # reference. Steering box is what is currently available OEM and the part # for the Pitman arm is the correct spline count for new boxes.

Hope to get this knocked out over the Christmas break.

That PS hose is much smaller than the paperclip version on mine.

I chose to use the McMaster Carr conversion on hatch struts to get the hatch up and out of my way, even at -15°F.

Spent some time working on a clock replacement. Right now, the prototype is ABS plastic, but I should have an aluminum version available after the first of the year. It works very well with light accessories, but I need to figure out how to brace it a bit better in the back for heavier things like tablets, etc.

What dash cover is that? How do you like it?

I did this PS refresh, well worth it. sector shaft upgrade??

it is a new OEM box from partsouq. As I understand it, it has the upgraded sector shaft which is what necessitates the new pitman arm.

I’m looking forward to finally getting rid of my loose steering. This is the last link in the chain to be replaced.

IIRC it was around $1650 for both the box and arm delivered to my door in NJ. About $100 of that was shipping. This is by far the largest ($$$) item I’ve purchased through Partsouq but I have ordered pretty regularly from them over the last 4 years. My experience has been that they are usually the least expensive OEM source and FEDEX/DHL ship to me usually within 3 days. This transaction was no different.

Looks great! Got a write up or parts list? Really like how clean you made it look.

I have been wanting to upgrade my headlights for years. I just didn’t want to add all the wiring and switches for auxiliary lights. While on FB founda fella in SLC that builds what you want using Depot housings so I ordered up a bling build. They are really amazing!! The brights are like having a light cannon on the front of the truck.

I havent posted in a while, even though I've done a lot over a lot of weekends on my FZJ80! Sadly, I'm in the middle of a head gasket replacement, and while cleaning the block came across this very disappointing etching. I dont really have the option of pulling the block to get it decked, as I"m doing the work in my friends garage and its basically time to get it out of there. I could try and get it towed out, but now that its in there it would be pretty tough. Anyone want to tell me what I want to hear and say it's fine to throw the new gasket in there and cross my fingers? Not really sure what else I can do.

And no, I dont have a machinists straight edge or feeler gauges, so I cant tell you how deep that pitting is. Also I'm about 1000 miles away with family for xmas.

If it’s all legit and upgraded it was a smoking deal.

I would recommend starting a separate thread for this and preface your subject with "RTH-" for "Real Time Help", since you seem to need a pretty quick response for your situation. Sorry I can't help more. Outside my expertise.

You need to find some way to measure things... Nobody can tell you what to do without knowing how bad it is. If you don't plan on decking the block during a head gasket job, a straight edge and gauges are pretty much a necessity.

The pic makes it look pretty bad, but I realize that isn't concrete evidence. Are the recesses deep enough that you can feel them with your fingernail? I am far from an engine guy, but I believe if they catch your nail, they're bad enough to need machining.

That is the pressure side of the PS hose. Yours is the same. I have installed 6-10 gates versions of this. Work great. FYI, the paperclip is on the low pressure side, connected with 3/8 hose.
