What Did You Do with Your 80 This Weekend? (67 Viewers)

After researching tents for the last few years, I finally pulled the trigger on a 9x8 Kodiak Canvas tent. I liked the modest foot print and the fact you can stand up in it (unless you're over 6ft). Got to run out to Anza Borrego for the weekend to try it out and it did not disappoint! Winds were gusting over 30 mph all night and the tent felt very sturdy.

Also got to try out the new Yokohama G003s and my HD rear swaybar. After 5 years of running the Toyo MT's, the Yokohama's felt super buttery. Much more sidewall flex and plush ride offroad.

After Christmas my wife and I will be doing another trip down towards Los Cabos for a couple weeks, so it was nice to pull out the camp gear and take a tally of what's needed.

I have the big version of that Kodiak. They’re incredibly strong. Wind has no effect. I’m selling mine though as I am waiting on my RTT to arrive.

Updated my horns that stopped working a few months ago. Went with the FIAMM 92102 and 92112 off eBay. (Also avail on Amazon)
easy install. Now cruiser sounds like a pissed off cadillac! Love it!

Also manually cranked power drivers seat to all the way back position and left it. I’ve fixed gears 3 times and am not doing it again. Will save my pennies for a scheel-Mann!

Installed my $14 Hella Supertones. Many thanks to @ERG80 for the heads up on the Woot.com special last week.

Other than adding a ground wire, the installation is < 15 minutes of plug and play.

A spot of Cardboard Aided Design to work out what size AGM I can cram in the quarter panel. This is a slightly over dimension mock up of a 55ah AGM that I’m considering. The manufacturer lists the battery as 222 x 291 x 106 (HxWxD). This is 5mm oversize from that and should work.

Before you start throwing money at a battery for that location it might be worth measuring how high the temperature will get in that part of the truck. I installed one of the Odyssey AGM batteries in there with my Joey panel but it didn't even last 18 months. I subsequently measured the heat and recorded temperatures in the upper 40's (c). Batteries don't like the heat much apparently. I have since dumped the remote battery idea and wired in a 10cm fan which kicks in when the temp in the compartment exceeds 35c. Might not cool so much but at least it moves air across the electronics I have installed in there.

Crisis averted. Cross county birthday cake retrieval for my buddy throwing his wife a party compliments of the ARB fridge. Fit just right with enough room left for a 12 of barley pops.

Then swapped oem belts from wits-end in his garage after dropping it off. I’d say they were due

And tightened the a pillar snorkle bracket that was backing out. Two rattles down and only a dozen to go :)

A very good point well made. Here in New Zealand we very rarely see temperatures over 30c, but i completely agree, and most of the heat is probably from the exhaust. I've got a temperature logger so might do some testing.

I have some constraints in my approach - i don't want cycling batteries in the engine bay (too hot) and i cant have it hard mounted in drawers etc - truck gets used for hauling dive gear, doggos and all sorts so can't have permanently mounted drawers.

I'm going to handle it by insulating the sheet metal in there (will help with sound too) and was thinking about a fan too.

Just got these in the mail, and had to show them off. @LandCruiserPhil came up with these swaybar links, Ive gone through 3 sets of very heavy duty swaybar links, BUT these are next level. Serious stuff. attention to detail is no joke.
