- Engine oil and filter change
- transmission oil dilution (4.5 qts drained and added)
- transfer case oil change
- differentials oil change
- lubed the shafts
- refilled the knuckles

The front diff kicked my ass since the ring around the bolt was messed up from a previous offload outing. Had to use a chisel to reshape the ring so I can fit the socket around the bolt.

Still kicking myself for picking the wrong weekend to do the work since it was hot and humid.

Oh, and I found out (still extremely surprised) that the local Toyota dealer does not give free oil filters away anymore, so I had to go back home and get my wallet.
Idiots!

Had a bit of a groan you could feel through the steering wheel when turning sometimes.

So, figured it was time to replace fluid. Did a full flush (barbed hose extension of the return line into a gallon milk container. Jacked the front axle off the ground and then with my younger son cycling the steering wheel side to side (engine off) I kept topping up the reservoir until we had purged out the old red ATF with new hydraulic Mobil DTE24.

Got a bit of air trapped in (let the reservoir go too low - oops) and 'interesting' sounds. Did a whole bunch of steering side/side (engine off and axle off ground) till the air bubbles had subsided.

Steering now smooth as silk. Good for another bunch of years.

cheers,
george.

Quick summary of my weekend progress:

I got a rescue text from my buddy, asking for help getting out of a bog situation on a trail. 80 series FTW!

Also, installed my Dobinsons adjustable panhard. With the axle more centered, my front end flexes more easily. I need to find a ramp to see how high I can go with this setup.

I love that trail. We still need to get together and wheel sometime. I want to check out those superior engineering arms too.
Anytime man I go out a lot.

When I finally get off my arse, or it cools down I will be doing the knuckle rebuild. I will call you.
You can borrow the socket again as well. Glad i had it though, mine got loose, turn and a half!!!

Donyou have birf soup or leaks?
Btw, its not that hot out, get to work!

GTFO the city for a long weekend in the South San Juans. Plenty of people up there in hunt camps, but my wife and our dogs and I had the run of the place, at least as far as fly-fishing goes.

We saw moose in two different drainages - the first day it was one cow and one calf, and the second day another cow and two calves! I ended up catching what I think are all the trout species in the San Juans - rainbow, brown, brook and cutthroat - and my wife and I doubled up with hooked fish two different times in the same beaver pond. We ran into one very cool, built 1st generation Tacoma and one awesome old 60 in our travels - truck was flawless and sunsets were pushing 9s on a 10-point scale.

Edited some photos of the 80. Thinking of starting a weekly Photoshop challenge on IG mixing the wagon with various films I've worked on.

Here's the first one I put up. Enjoy
